There is a chance that Izzy Gilbertson of Mount Ayr High School could be the Conference Player Of The Year this Winter within her team’s 2A conference. Gilbertson is a household name throughout Iowa by now. She has been the force to reckon with at Mount Ayr for three years and she is looking to finish things out on a high note for her Senior year. Last Winter she was the 2A leader in total Blocks (87). The main area she works on the floor is in the middle of the paint. She is one of her team’s tallest and most coordinated prospects so putting her near the hoop makes sense from a coaching standpoint. She is athletic and skilled enough to be able to take from the outside at times but she really dominates in between the blocks. She is a scoring threat, that can work on either side of the paint and produce at a steady rate and she is probably one of the best SF that the 2A Class has to offer over the next eight months.
We talk about Izzy Gilbertson being a SF on her high school team because she is one of the taller prospects participating at all times and she does do a lot of good near the hoop but she is also skilled enough to bring her matchup to the outside. She has some promising guard-like abilities, that really make her a CG more than anything else. I will say she does have most of her production occur near the hoop but that doesn’t change the fact that she can be your team’s 3. Plus with her reach and athletic ability she can switch on defense to guard several different positions, which coaches. All in all, Gilbertson has been the go-to hooper at Mount Ayr the last few years and we shouldn’t expect that to change anytime in the near future.

is POTY next season within her Mount Ayr team’s conference because of her production and overall skill. Gilbertson has been putting up big numbers for years now. She is a mismatch to most opponents with her guard-like ability at 5’10. She has a respectable handle, good footwork, coordinated balance, and discipline. Those four things mix together to make a solid competitor, that is tough to contain with only one defender. That’s what we have here. If opposing teams don’t circle her on the scouting report coming into it, it’s going to be a long night. Gilbertson is a multiple sport athlete so I’m not sure what she will end up doing in college but if she wants to play Basketball, she should have those options on the table.

will be an all conference player once again this season for Mount Ayr. Gilbertson also falls into the situation that she won’t play against the highest level on competition during her season but she can only control so much. No matter what, she is going to be the focal point of her team’s system. She will be in-charge of scoring, distributing, and defending like her life depends on it in some contests. Gilbertson has put up productive numbers for two years now at this level so I’m thinking she will do the same once again for her Junior season over the next eight months.
Mount Ayr will face their hardest challenge of the season when they host Lenox tonight. This Raiders group will look to move onto the next round but it won’t be easy. Where both teams usually thrive is at the Forward or post position and that is going to make for a chest match-type contest. For the Raiders, players like Izzy GilbertsonIzzyGilbertson

are going to be looked upon to lead the way. Gilbertson has been the leader of this team up until this point in the season and I don’t expect that to change up in this one. The advantage that the Raiders will have is that they have more firepower. With Gilbertson in charge and other skilled players backing her, I would think that they will come out on top but who knows.
