There may not have been a more impressive stat line from the action on Sunday at the Sandy Spiel Fall League as Whelchel finished the game with an impressive 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals. She was equally as good in the game I saw Sequoyah play at Wofford Team Camp in July, but the ball just would not go in the basket for her that day. That did not keep her from having a huge impact on the game and being a major reason why her team won that game as she stuffed the stat sheet in virtually every other category. She was able to change that game with her speed and quickness on the defensive end and pushing the ball in transition. Jayden is one of the better 2029 prospects in the state and I really look forward to watching her play again.

Doesn’t look or play like a freshman. Strong frame in the backcourt for a freshman. Terrific athlete with a true nose for the ball. Loves to showcase her lightning quick hands to dig out steals when guarding 94-feet. Compact jump shot looks very good and has three-point range. Can be let loose with her speed and toughness, able to influence games with her hustle. Great blood lines, looks like a future All-State talent.

Whelchel showed she can post strong on the block and score at the rim. Great at setting screens and rolling to the basket. Great hands which allow her to catch the ball in traffic. Knows how to defend the paint and on the wing. Runs the floor well.

Physical defender who makes her presence known immediately. She’s strong and athletic, racking up steals with her active hands. In transition, she finishes with both hands, and her compact shooting form suggests upside as a three-point threat. She’s a high-motor two-way guard with top-tier potential in the 2029 class.
