ran the floor well beating her opponents up the court, catching the pass, and scoring in transition. She scored through contact making three points the old fashioned way. On defense, she flies all over the court deflecting passes and making her opponents second guess their plan. Her defense certainly slowed the tempo for her opponents.

is another ball handler who has a good feel for the game making the right move to get a play going. She hits her teammates in their hands as they make their cuts to the basket. She creates her own open lanes attacking the basket and making nice adjustments to get the ball through the hoop. Her arsenal of moves are sure to get her opponents off their feet as she blows by them.

has never been intimidated by defenders as she can create her own open lane with the way she moves with the ball. She times her moves perfectly executing them at the perfect time to blow by her opponents and roll the ball off her fingertips at the rim. She movs well off the ball, too, making effective cuts being ready for the pass and going to work right away. Her ability to shoot from deep makes her an asset all over the court.

was one of the most impressive prospects at the Inside Exposure tournament. Her ability to get downhill left or right and score with creativity and through physicality was more than impressive. Weaver displayed the handles, the hesitation moves, the euro, the three ball and even scoring off of offensive rebounds. Weaver’s gave is college ready – she was elite, unstoppable, and one of the top bucket getters at the event.

J’niya Weaver was making nice plays using her hesitation moves to get by her defender and finish at the rim. She had some nice range with her shot, too, coming off a screen and scoring off the pass. She bullied her way to the basket scoring through contact. She anticipated what her opponents were going to do on the full court press jumping in for the steal.

Controls the game at a high level, directing traffic for a good Mt. Zion team that graduated most of their guard depth. Hard-nosed driver, can hit perimeter shots, gets to 50/50 balls, is money from the midrange off the bounce. I love that Weaver is assertive and decisive with the ball in her hands, making the right read to score or facilitate off the bounce. Fierce competitor, winner.

Jniya is fun to watch. Her first step is a blur to my camera so I can only imagine what defenders must go through. She was “that girl” in her first two games averaging 25 ppg. She was held to 17 points against McNamara who were geared up to stop her. She has established herself over the past two seasons and should be recognized as one of the to players in the region.

-Weaver was far and away the most valuable player for MZ, leading a comeback attempt that almost was successful down the stretch. Weaver understands angles and sets up the defense well with a low dribble or two before crossing over and getting to her spots. Her hustle defensively in transition to save several buckets showed the motor and heart that she plays with. An intelligent passer that makes the right read consistently off screens, the threat to score or pass makes her much harder to guard in the halfcourt.

J’Niya was everything in this game. It’s not that she scored 26 points in this game but it’s the way she did it. She played both ends of the floor adding 7 boards and 7 steals. She also shot the three and got to the line. Her upcoming game against Bullis should be interesting.
