Kaleigh was as smooth and polished as any player I saw this season. A little bit of style here and there mixed in with a whole lot of substance. She does not lack ability in any facet of the game and plays with a very high IQ. Her decision making elevates her above most of the guards in the state in her class. Kaleigh could try and go score every trip down the court on offense, probably more times successfully than not. She is that talented and gifted with the ball in her hands. However, she is very unselfish and just as talented a passer as she is a scorer. She did an outstanding job bringing up the play of her teammates and leading them by example. Heywood dealt with all of the extra defensive attention great players do by using her vision to find open teammates and set them up for success. When it was time to get a bucket, everyone in the gym knew she was getting the ball and time and time again she delivered in big moments when her team needed her most. I would not be shocked at all if after a solid freshman season at Alabama State, Heywood is hot commodity in the transfer portal amongst Power Five coaches.

Heywood has hit on 40% of her threes, the Alabama State-signee is a do-everything star averaging 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.9 steals and 2 blocks. Her toughness on both ends of the floor makes her one of the best players in Georgia.

Heywood was on fire out of the gate, scoring 13 points in the opening quarter and finishing with 19 points in the first half. She knocked down multiple contested threes with a hand in her face. Heywood did a nice job showing patience on offense before attacking the defense. She has a high level of maturity in her decision-making with the ball. She did not force shots and rarely was to blame for any turnovers. Heywood used her size effectively shielding off on-ball defenders running the point and had good vision finding open teammates.

Pure scorer from all over the floor. Physical with the ball, Kaleigh gets to her spots. She gets downhill and has no issue scoring through contact with either hand. Heywood is dangerous mid-range shooter with three-point range. Heady ball handler. Holds an Alabama State offer.

D-I offers are starting to materialize for Heywood, the dynamic sophomore scoring machine. Kaleigh’s physical strength helps her when driving her way to the basket, able to shrug off reaches and hacks. The GameChanger scores from all three levels with ease.

Heywood’s shot making is among the best in her class. She excels at getting to her spots and can torch defenses from the mid-range. Kaleigh has a strong build and good size on the perimeter. When she gets downhill she can finish through contact. Heywood is also a competitive rebounder and a versatile defender.

Kaleigh took the court for the first official high school game of her career. She stuck to her strengths early in the game and used her athleticism to control the glass. She picked up her scoring in the second half including a tough finish through a foul at the end of the third quarter. I would not be surprised if she notches her first double-double this season as a freshman.

My first look at Kaleigh against older competition and her game held up well. She was less of a “bully” but her athleticism and size keep her in the mix during live action. She was able to grab rebounds against bigger players with her quick and high jump. Looking forward to watching her in her first high school season.

Kaleigh is a handful for most opposing players to manage. She pairs size and athleticism very well when on the wings. Her ability to get to the rim through contact where she can power finish or use some acrobatic finesse. She runs the floor in transition well and really understands the benefits of spacing in the open court. Whether pushing herself or running off the ball, it was noticeable how she intentionally spaced herself from teammates in order to increase scoring chances on the break.

. She completely stole the show with her first impression. When I walked into the gym for the first game, Heywood immediately landed on my radar with her aggressive style of play. She’s a good athlete that finishes exceptionally well through contact, getting downhill whenever she wants. It didn’t take long to identify her as a three-level scorer, more than just a one trick pony. Heywood is a great shooter, scorching the nets from three and the mid-range. When I sat down to stat her second game of the day, her box score blew me away. 35 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 1 block in a 95-39 win. Unsurprisingly, Kaleigh never lost a game at camp. Heywood hardly ever missed. She hit three threes and five mid-range jumpers. Kaleigh is so smooth at getting into her shot off the bounce. If this is who Heywood is night in and night out, and if she continues to improve over her four years of high school, we are looking at a no brainer Power 5 prospect.
