Kate Sears Kate Sears 5'9" | CG Watauga | 2025 State NC has added a few new titles to her name this week including Ms. Basketball and NC Gatorade Player of the Year.  She’s had a sensational career racking up triple doubles this season.  She can score on any level, and she reads the floor so well knowing the next right play to make whether she’s dishing it to her teammates or attacking the gaps perfectly.  She can knock it down from deep with ease, and she does all the little things getting inside for rebounds or making the extra pass.  Her communication and leadership is what truly sets her apart from others.

Sears is making sure her name is known throughout the country with the way she has been playing this year making it a common thing to see her get a triple-double.  She is a fierce competitor knowing how to read the defense and score whether it’s pulling up fr a midrange jumper or getting all the way to the rim.  The lefty guard can certainly show her range shooting it from deep.  Scoring isn’t her only superpower, though, as she follows shots on both ends grabbing rebounds, and she is certain to make the right adjustments getting the passes into her teammates.

Kate Sears Kate Sears 5'9" | CG Watauga | 2025 State NC has been on a tear this season going out with a bang to finish her high school career.  The lefty guard knows how to get to the rim easy creating her own open lanes or reading the floor well using what the defense gives her.  She can whip passes to her teammates, and she does well knocking down her shot from deep.  She is a great communicator on the court facilitating offensive plays and talking on defense.

Kate Sears Kate Sears 5'9" | CG Watauga | 2025 State NC always knows how to make plays with the personnel she has on the court.  She can whip passes inside to her teammates and hit others in stride as they hustle up the court on fast breaks.  She knows exactly what her team needs even crashing the boards for some rebounds.  She’s tough battling through contact to get her points.

Kate Sears Kate Sears 5'9" | CG Watauga | 2025 State NC continues to show how she’s a play maker whipping passes inside to her teammates cutting to the basket or making the cut herself going up strong at the rim.  She’s so effective with her movements handling the ball losing her defenders.  She continues to have a knockdown shot from all around the perimeter.  On defense, she showed her IQ even drawing a charge getting the ball back for her team. 

Sears is not only the No. 1 rated senior guard per the Prep Girls Hoops 2025 rankings, she is the top-rated player in said rankings. Prior to when she begins her collegiate journey at Virginia Tech, Sears will have one more go-round with a Watauga team that is among the favorites to win it all in 4A play this season. There are many reasons as to why the 5-foot-9 combo guard for the Pioneers was on the Hokies’ radar – including her 3-point shooting ability and her ability to create space to find open looks. Last season, she averaged 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 2.2 steals per game. 

Kate Sears Kate Sears 5'9" | CG Watauga | 2025 State NC is really fun to watch on the basketball court. She can create space for her pretty jump shot at any point. She can also connect on multiple three-point field goals. When Sears has the ball in her hands, you have to watch and see what is going to happen next. She could shoot a deep three in the defender’s face or take them off the dribble and score at the rim. Sears is a special player with unlimited potential.

Sears has a sweet outside shot and the ability to create space for her jumper. Sears will use a smooth step-back move or a shot fake to get her jumper off from anywhere on the floor. She changes her speed well on the drive and draws multiple fouls per game on her way to the basket.  Sears is an elite talent who only continues to get better on the basketball court.
