Olds smoothness with the ball and clutch shooting grabbed my attention years ago and watching her “on the court” progression has been special for me see evaluations here yet she continues to elevate her game after catching her at the #SimmieColsonClassic because she’s seeing the floor better in transition, and knocking it down deeper while being defended

Katelyn did a great job creating for herself on the drive. She exposed any gaps in coverage as she carved paths to the rim. At times, she found scoring opportunities when they seemingly didn’t exist or there was no room to operate. Smart players know how to turn nothing into something, which is what she did when Havoc dialed in and turned up the pressure.

Olds keeps showing me something new, and yeah, her slight HEZ to get the defender off balance so she could attack and score was nice. She can drop the mid to long-range, catch and shoot included, her court vision in transition, as well as in the set, looked good yet her “stop and pop” jumper was clicking and she played the passing lane

Olds has always impressed me with her ability to create her shot and knock it down while being pressured yet at the Simmie Colson Classic she showed me she also has gotten better at creating contact while attacking the basket to score. Her deceptive first step sets the stage, her body control after the lick has also gotten better plus her court vision in transition was another plus

Olds may not be in the GM lineup but she’s definitely in the SIM “must-see” group. There’s no telling how high she’ll land but her being a big guard and a stat sheet filler-upper, I enjoy how poised she is no matter what. She can post up smaller guards around the basket, can go by taller guards from the wing, or just drop the mid to long-range, stop, and pop included on whoever. She rebounds and handles the ball afterward and her court vision in the set as well as in transition is solid

Amazing UPSIDE for this “big guard” that can shoot yet she finishes off the dribble after getting hit “Oops Upside The Head”, GOOGLE it, continues to get better. She creates her shot while being defended and drops the mid to long-range with a hand in her face

Olds gave me a lot of what I needed to see and her Euro on Friday night JUST DID IT for me. Well so did her “behind the back” pass attempt going full speed on Saturday, I like what I like and I love when players do things instinctively. Nice body control on her finishes as she attacks the basket yet her court vision in the set as well as in transition was really nice. She can drop the jumper and she plays the passing lane

Katelyn has an “Olds” school feel to her game. A plug and play type of player that seems to thrive in any situation she is put in. She was able to display her entire skill set as the showcase progressed and had me in awe because of how versatile she was. Handled the ball very well for her team, impressive for a taller player. Showed a tight and effective behind the back dribble all day and was able to get around her defender with ease. The reason I use the term “old school” to describe her game is because she puts to use all of the fundamental and lost arts of the game. Her pump fake was surgical down low and used it quite often to get to her up and under move. Had me out of my seat when she used a pass fake to freeze her defender then quickly finished at the rim, and showed time and time again that she is on her way to mastering the offensive putback game. Constant deflections and steals on defense proved that she does not take plays off to rest and is always locked in. Rebounding on the defensive end seemed to be one of her strongest attributes. I’m going to throw a name into the mix when comparing her rebounding skills to one of my favorite players. DENNIS RODMAN comes to mind when watching her rebound. Her relentlessness and the way she secured the ball all day had me thinking “This is the 9th grade, female version of Rodman.” Katelyn should stand out in her freshmen class at Liberty Hill and will have the opportunity for quality minutes as a newbie on the varsity level.
