Broughton is a tough player. She is a great rebounder who is one of the best in the state at boxing out the competition. On the offensive glass, she is brilliant at creating second-chance opportunities, and she is an efficient finisher, so most of her points come in the paint.

In addition to her work on the offensive glass, she can create her own offense on the block. She can back down her defender and use moves such as a spin or a drop-step to get past them, scoring with ease. Sometimes, she just hits them with her power and moves them out of the way.

I seriously doubt that there is anyone tougher than Broughton in the post. She is one of the best rebounders in the state, on both ends. Broughton is impossible to box out, and she could potentially outbound opposing teams by herself.

Offensively, Broughton is an efficient finisher. She uses her strength to back down her opponents, then she will hit them with a drop step and score through contact. She has a nice touch around the basket, so she is missing very few paint looks.

Broughton may not average 20 points per game, but she is the heartbeat of this team, making her presence felt on the glass and on the defensive end. She does have a number of games under her belt where she becomes Dumas’ go-to scorer, such as the mid-January game against Drew Central where she had 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals.

As I mentioned, Broughton does not need to be the #1 scorer, as she has shown that she can an impact in other areas. Against Rison in January, the junior big had just 9 points but 16 rebounds, one of her best totals this season.

Dumas was undefeated in conference this season and they are searching to go undefeated in regionals and later the playoffs. If that is going to happen, their paint bruiser must play well.

She feasts off of post-ups, and if she has a smaller defender on her, it truly is a “Barbeque Chicken Alert.” Broughton has exceptional post moves, and can spin around defenders with ease. She can seal them off and gains positioning against them whenever she wants. Once Broughton has a look at the rim, there are not many players who can successfully stop her from finishing. Even if the defense throws contact her way, she can dish it right back.

On the glass, Broughton wins every battle for the boards, and if she is boxing you out, might as well start running back down the court because you are not getting that board over her. Whether it is on the defensive or offensive end, Broughton will win the rebounding battle.

She is a double-double machine, but she has the ability to do even more. Last season, Broughton recorded a triple-double versus Manila, which is obviously difficult to do as a big or as a sophomore. This is just another reason why Broughton should be one of the best names to watch out for this season.
