About Kennedi

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I believe that defense wins games. I always start out with a defensive mindset because I know that defense will lead to offense. I am a physical player and I believe in punching first! In terms of offense, I love the paint but over the last year, I have been working on expanding outside shooting and improving my jump shot percentage.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

Many tell me that I have an alter ego on the court. Off the court…I am talkative, I ask lots of questions, I am easy going, and a peacemaker. On the court, I am intense and aggressive. If there is a 50/50 ball, you will find me somewhere fighting for it. I am a team player and I am always looking for the best shot. I strive to get all of my teammates involved!

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

During my freshman year, I was a member of student council. I was also inducted into the National Beta Club. This organization selects members based on GPA and I maintained a 4.25 during my freshman year.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Basketball has helped me grow my leadership skills. I was the leading scorer of my varsity HS team during my freshman year and with this came leadership. I learned to motivate my team in a huddle when we were down. I had to stay settled when I wasn’t having my best game and I felt my team was depending on me, this made me see the bigger picture, which was the team and not just my own performance.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My father was killed when I was 4 years old. I don’t have many memories of him but my mom always tells me how much he loved basketball. I got serious about basketball during middle school…a little later than my peers, but I have put in so much work to get better. When I am on the court, I’m not only playing for my team, but I’m playing for my father.

What type of college are you looking for?

When thinking about a college, I want to be part of a program that can continue to develop my basketball skills. I also value education, so I am searching for a school that will prepare me for my future career. I do believe that playing time is earned and I will earn that time, but I want to attend a school that needs me and will utilize my skills early on in my collegiate career.
