York High School made the State Tournament last Winter as an 8th seed. If they want to make it back to Lincoln, this is a group that is going to be led by their returning Senior –

at the PG position. Kern averaged over 14 PPG last Winter to help out her team, while also being a top notch distributor to those around her. This season she will be looked upon even more as she will be their main producer returning in multiple positive statistical categories. She will need to create first for her teammates and from there, she will need to producer herself. If others can step up to help, I could see this group making some waves come Playoff time but we will just have to wait and see. I’m sure that Kern will have a season to remember though. Everything is lining up for this to be “her” team so I can’t wait to see how that unfolds over the next six months.

Whenever I have seen highlights or stat lines from York High School this season, I have seen constant production from one of their main PG’s,

. Kern understands what it means to be a solid overall competitor out on the court. Not only is she someone that enjoys playing basketball, it seems like she enjoys to watch it just as much and that can help players learn the game as they grow up. It’s early on but you can tell from even just a year ago that Kern has gotten better with time and experience. If she continues on this path, she is going to be someone we continue to speak about for the next two years of her high school career.

. Kern is a student of the game. Someone that loves the process of becoming better, while not only looking at the end result. Those players are the one’s who can take things to the next level. On the court, Kern has promise with a decently high ceiling. She is someone that has shown an experienced game in moments but in reality, she is still learning. If she steps onto the floor this Winter with confidence and she understands how to apply her off-season work, I think she is going to be a major player for this program. She should ultimately control a lot by the time she becomes an upperclassmen and that is something I can’t wait to see.

before I can really break down her play style but from what I’ve seen so far and the numbers she has been putting up over this past year, it’s not crazy to say she could finish her high school career as one of the top PG’s out of the 2027 Class in Nebraska before she ends up graduating York High School. We are still awhile away from that but it’s do-able. Kern is a player that wants to compete at the highest level possible at the end of the day and that is something you have to respect from an outside point-of-view. Within the right system, she could be productive in a number of different ways.

Kern was a guard that really impressed us all weekend with her strong frame and how mature she played. She played at a really good pace and on a balance. Kern showed off her range beyond the 3-point line on multiple possessions triggering a run for her team.

She plays both sides of the basketball on the defensive end she’s anticipating the pass and is always getting those passing lane steals and on the offensive end she’s finishing at the rim with her soft touch and variety of different ways. If you play the drive and back up she will knock down the 3.

may have only averaged 7.1 PPG as a Freshman but she displayed a lot of promise in several aspects of this game. The thing that jumps out to anyone when watching Kern compete is her ability to shoot the ball. She has a picture perfect shooting stroke from deep, with great arc and a consistent base. Whenever she is in any type of situation around the three point line such as a Pick-&-Roll, the defense needs to be aware that she is usually going to pop out. If you leave her open to shoot around there, it’s going to have a good chance of going in. Defensively, she works just as hard. She always tries to beat her opponents to their spots and if she can’t, she communicates to switch with a teammate that may be closer in proximity to the play. York High School had a nice season overall and Kern did a consistent job of standing out. The future for both parties in this matter seems bright moving forward.
