We had a chance to scout K.A-M. this Winter season and she showed out every time we were in the building with some promising action. She made basic and simple reads for buckets in the paint, she pulled it out and hit some shots from deep off the catch, and she wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty by diving for loose balls when those situations presented themselves. Last year she was a solid prospects on the road against some tough competition across the Midwest. This season she is going to need to pick up right where she left off. She is going to have to play dominant basketball but still intelligent basketball. If she can control that mix within her own ability, she is going to shine as someone to know out of Iowa moving into next season for her Senior campaign.

is another guard that I think will bring energy off the bench for CR Jefferson. She’s got a good intuition on defense and serious speed off the dribble. One of my favorite plays from the scrimmage was Atwood-Mayes staying vertical for a big time block, catching the rebound, and beating everyone down the floor for a coast to coast layup. I’m looking forward to Atwood-Mayes’ sophomore season.

Kymara Atwood was a Freshman last season on the court at CR – Jefferson High School. Atwood came onto the high school scene last Winter and did a solid job of having a respectable year. This season, Atwood will be looked at a little more in her team’s offense, as they try to build on what they put in place last Winter. Atwood is listed as a SF at 5’8 but she plays more of a Combo position. She is agile enough to step out to the three point line and take her bigger defender into space or she can post up someone that is smaller than her. Her handle is better than average but still a work in progress, while she has shown some solid vision up the court when in transition. I think there is another level to Atwood’s game, she just needs to figure out how to unlock it and this season could be a major key in that process.

“I think that it’s safe to say that Atwood-Mayes is playing the best basketball of her career right now, going into her Sophomore Season at CR – Jefferson. Mayes is just really clicking right now. She is keeping it simple, making the extra pass when it’s there, outplaying her opponents in their 1v1 matchup, and she is always willing to sacrifice her body on the floor for a loose ball for the good of her team. Going into Day 4 of this weekend, I’m excited to see how this team caps off their respectable season.”

is going to be their team’s “glue” type prospect. She kind of does a little bit of everything when she is on the court because of her versatility. She has better than average size for her position, with the ability to move between the 2, 3, or 4 spot depending on what is being asked of her by her coaching staff. This past high school season, Mayes put together a solid campaign. She make her presence known as a Freshman in her program and she seems to grow her game throughout the season while doing it. I’m not sure that she is going to be the player to ever put up 30-40 points in a contest but you can bet that she is going to give you production in some shape or form each night.

comes into the high school basketball season with a high ceiling and a lot of promise. Atwood-Mayes is a combo guard/small forward with the three S’s when it comes to her physical play. She has size, speed, and strength. Not to mention that she has good coordination and touch with the basketball in her hands. In a program that is on the up-and-up over these next few seasons, I expect Atwood-Mayes to be a big part of the building process that is taking place. She will help set the foundation for future classes to come in and be successful on the court in this Jefferson Jayhawks basketball program. Something that everyone will look back on in the future and be proud to be apart of!
