About Lainey

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Quick release shot from the 3-point line, very strong frame and a tough defender, very high basketball IQ, able to make adjustments in high intensity games, able to play inside the paint well and be impactful on the drive, very dedicated to the sport and passionate about basketball, a team leader, very coachable, trusted teammate.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I love basketball. With this comes a great passion to play. Having a starting position both in high school and my AAU teams has led to the ability for me to take on a leadership role with my team. I am very social, outgoing, and not afraid to take charge when needed. I am un-swayed by others and do not fall into peer pressure. I love my family and God and try to represent him in all I do.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I am in the Spanish Club at school. I have participated in many EPIC functions (Edwardsville Peer Influence Club) but am not a member. I participate in volunteering at my church, middle school, local food pantry, and with other organizations in our town. I was honored with the American Legion Award.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I am very much a leader both on and off the court. My teammates can trust me and rely on me. I get along very well with coaching staff and teammates and work well with them. I pride myself on being very coachable. I grew up in a family where community service and volunteerism is a way of life and have tried to continue that as I get older.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I have recently been diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis. I have had symptoms on and off my whole life but until recently, did not have a diagnosis or treatment. I have had to change my diet by avoiding food triggers and take medication to help my symptoms. Thankfully, I have never let this affect my basketball game or stamina and have fought through it and am grateful it is now treated.

What type of college are you looking for?

I would love to play D1/D2 basketball but of course would consider any level of play where my academic goals and athletic goals can be met. I would love to play in a more southern school but would not rule out other opportunities. I love the game of basketball and just want to continue my dream into my college years. I am excited to see where my journey takes me.

A 5’7 guard from the Illinois side who had an impressive performance on Sunday as she scored in a variety of ways. On her drives, she could use her body well to draw contact and still get the bucket. Her perimeter shooting was also on point. She passed the ball well and she was an active rebounder from the guard position.
