Expert Analysis
Jill Dunn | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Important player for Providence Day. Layla will add depth to the guard position and has the ability to knock down open shots. This will be key as defenses are going to have to put a lot of focus on teammates Dumont and McClure at the guard positions. Layla is a hard worker on defense and this will be a big emphasis for Coach Josh Springer this upcoming season. Look for Clark to be a great contributor in her final season.

used her strong defense to strip the ball away from her opponents. She was making some nice cuts to the basket sneaking behind her opponents or cutting across the baseline to get the pass. She can score against anyone fighting through contact when needed, and she always moves quickly making nice decisions to get her teammates involved.

Layla Clark was playing with a high motor on both ends hustling back on defense stripping the ball away on a fast break and pushing the tempo up the other end of the court. She exploded up the court for her own fast breaks. She knocked down her shot from deep, too, and she didn’t shy away from diving on the floor going after loose balls.

Clark’s Providence Day Chargers earned a 52-41 victory at the expense of Palmetto State-based 4A Eastside on Sunday afternoon. They had Clark in large part to thank for that successful effort. Clark finished with 14 points which led all Providence Day point-getters for the contest. She particularly spearheaded the team’s efforts from deep as Clark sank four of the team’s seven 3-pointers for the game. If it was not treys she was draining, it was free throws as she is a threat to give her team extra opportunities at the charity stripe with the contact she draws. If Sunday’s game was a sign of things to come out of the Chargers the next few seasons – look out.

Layla Clark can find the openings and knock down her shot beyond the perimeter. I think one thing that has impressed me is her ability to consistently hit the baseline three pointers that seem to be so tricky to make. On defense, she does a nice job knowing where she is needed whether she is sliding back into her zone or coming out to prevent a guard from scoring.
