Another dynamic guard that has a ton of upside potential. Layla is a guard that knows how to go get a bucket. She can put points on the board in a hurry by multiple ways. She is a good rebounder from the guard position and can add points by offensive putbacks or by defensive rebounds going coast to coast. Defensively, she will use her speed and savviness to get steals that lead to buckets.

Layla Sims Layla Sims 5'9" | CG Northern | 2028 NC is tough around the rim attacking the basket and scoring her points even if it means battling through contact.  She constantly gets downhill using her shifty ball handling to get by her opponents.  She gets her teammates involved, too, dishing them the ball hitting them in stride making sure they can shoot right off the pass.

Sims is another name we remember from Carolina All-Stars 15U E40’s appearance at Peach Games. A 5-foot-9 combo guard who has spent a good bit of her career at the much-revered NC GBB program in North Carolina’s Research Triangle, Sims was instrumental in getting her team into Sunday’s bracket stage. One of Sims’ more noteworthy games occurred in Saturday’s pool play when Carolina All-Stars 15U E40 matched up against Macon Mystics 2028. She would score 11 points in a matchup where her team was close to winning. Sims brought a boost to her team’s efforts with a pair of 3-pointers. 

This is far from the first time we have made mention of Sims and it will likely be far from the last. She was one of our top performers from Peach Games earlier in the month and she continued her stellar play this past weekend. Sims tallied seven points in one of the more entertaining matchups of the day. That was when her Carolina All-Stars 15U E40 team were in a close contest with Macon Mystics 2028. At 5-foot-9, she adds to the height advantage that is prevalent throughout her travel team. Sims showcased her ability to score at all three levels. 

Hester could not have done it all by herself. Close games are typically won in their latter portions and Sims made plenty of plays late in Carolina All-Stars 15 E40’s contest with Mississippi Jazz Elite 15U. Sims finished with 12 points in what was a low-scoring 41-35 decision over the Mississippi-based assembling. She stands at 5-foot-9 on a team with plenty of height. That certainly helps when looking to do work as a rebounder and a shot blocker. Sims also has no problems drawing contact to get to the free throw line and also will display a willingness to try her hand at the 3-point shot.
