led No. 11 Oregon City in an upset against No. 6 South Salem in a Round of 16 thriller on Saturday night. Carns is the floor general for the Pioneers. She’s poised on the bounce, knocks down threes, and has a quick first step to get downhill. The point guard, named to the Three Rivers League First Team, combined for 30 points in the Pioneers’ two playoff wins. This year’s Cinderella team will face No. 3 Benson in the quarterfinals.

Every time the Carns drives inside fearlessly, hits her trademark inverted eurostep move and flips up a highlight finish over the tall trees, it feels like she is defying the odds. But percentage-wise, her odds of finishing are pretty high. The 5’0″ guard leads the Oregon City roster in most statistical categories, including scoring. Most of the time, she’s doing it from beyond the arc, where she tied a school record for threes in a single game with seven against Lebanon back in December. She has great defensive instincts and comes away with tons of steals at the top of the Pioneer full-court press. Carns already made the first team as a sophomore, but this season she has become an even more consistent and polished version of herself.

Oregon City’s team took the court for the first game of the day, and Carns didn’t wait to make an impression. The 5’0″ scoring machine immediately made it clear she was one of the best guards in the gym. She was involved in every possession and was looking to shoot more often than not for good reason — her flurry of consecutive jumpers led her team to a 20-11 win. A player of her size must also be savvy with the ball, and she put that on display with off-handed finishes over taller defenders, decisive and purposeful dribbling, and a one-handed bounce pass on the money to a cutter. When given the space to operate, Carns has an ability to bend defenses at will.

drained the pull-up and catch-and-shoot three, dished and finished in the paint, and played tenacious defense at the HoopSource Memorial Day Championships. The Oregon City sophomore (2027) navigated the fullcourt pressure defense to get her team into its offense. She can kock down the three against the grain of momentum. She has an effective hesitation move and quick step to get downhill. She dishes and kicks for the assist. She’s crafty in the lane to get the bucket. Carns made a big block on a driver taller than her. She hustled on help defense to tie up the ball handler to force the jump ball. She works hard start to finish.

is quick and crafty on both ends. The 5-foot point guard has excellent handles and vision, knocks down the deep three ball, and dishes in the paint. Carns convinces with the shot fake to get downhill, sells the jump stop pump fake to get the help defender to commit to the air, and slips underneath with a controlled Euro step to finish with a scoop layup at the rim. She averaged 12.6 points (shooting 45% from the field and 37% from three), 3.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.1 steals per game and was named to the Three Rivers League First Team her sophomore year. Carns is ranked No. 19 in her Prep Girls Hoops class of 2027 rankings debut.
