Expert Analysis
Brandon Bradley | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Maddison transferred from South Bend’s John Adams High School to South Bend’s James Whitcomb Riley High School between her Sophomore and Junior seasons. She is a heady little guard who plays with a nice motor and all-around feel for the game. She is a solid ball-handler, plus her vision and ability to find open teammates are very good at this age. She has also improved her physicality and ability to absorb contact when attacking the basket. If she can shoot it consistently this Spring & Summer, she should have some good small college interest.

Despite the size, Lawson is the original ballhandler for this Showcase team. She rarely makes the wrong decision and consistently demonstrates her ability to be a true facilitator on multiple occasions. From a scoring standpoint, she shows a ton of her skill behind the arc.

Maddison plays with poise, and it is contagious to the team! I like her outside shooting a lot! Plays with confidence! She sees the wide open shots not only for herself, but for her teammates. Makes the right choices on transition!

Lawson plays smart basketball- and her game gets rolling with her pressure defense! Always aware of where the ball is, does not give opponents easy looks, and she just doesn’t wear down! Nice outside shooter- pretty jump shot and can knock down 3’s! (Below on defense)

Maddison put together a really nice Freshman season for Adams, and she extended that into a solid Spring & Summer grassroots season. She has gotten a little stronger, she has some length, and she plays with some quickness. Maddison has really good ball skill, she plays with her head up scanning the floor, and she’s a willing passer. She can also step outside and knock down an open rhythm jumper consistently. I really like her play as a traditional point guard, and if she brings that same urgency defensively, it will help her game.

Maddison Lawson excels in the classroom and on the basketball court. She is a straight “A” student and the type of ball player that can go for 20 points and 10 assists on any given night. Maddison left her mark at the Clash. She manipulated defenses with her deep range shooting, played well under pressure, was very good at drawing contact, and made crisp passes to put her teammates in position to score.
