Maggie once again proved that effort and toughness translate at any level. All weekend long, she was everywhere on the floor, making plays that don’t always show up in the box score but make a huge difference. She handled the ball with confidence, attacked the rim aggressively, and finished through contact against bigger defenders. Her improved outside shot forced defenses to respect her, opening up driving lanes where she took advantage. She consistently chased down rebounds, created turnovers, and played with relentless energy from start to finish. Coming off a State Championship season, she showed she knows how to win.

Maggie is a competitor that will never take a play off. She prides herself on the defensive end. She does a great job getting deflections, steals, and forcing turnovers! Offensively, she’s efficient, and she does a good job knocking down outside shots! She is a fundamentally sound athlete with great mechanics. She doesn’t force shots or passes. She’s a true glue kid that every coach would love to have on their squad. She’s smart on and off the court! In the classroom, she holds a 3.9 GPA. This is a young ’27 that will continue to put in the work.

She’s the type of “glue” kid that every team needs. I watched Sevier County play Lebanon, and she was guarding some of the most athletic kids in the state out of sheer will. She’s not a supreme athlete, but does have supreme heart. She’s beginning to become a more consistent scoring threat as she enters her sophomore year, showing of a nice floater and decent 3 ball. She’s also a fantastic cutter as Cybil Penland Cybil Penland 5'10" | SG Sevier Co. | 2025 State TN found her multiple times. I’m a big fan of her game.

is the ultimate glue kid. She will simply do whatever it takes to win. She doesn’t care about the box score…she cares about the score board. In their final win of Live Period #2, she put her diversity on display with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Maggie is the athlete that will have you looking into all of the non-traditional stats! Who thinks about the importance of ball reversals? Maggie never tries to do too much and she puts the defense at a disadvantage numerous times in a game because she gets the ball out of her hands and to an open teammate! What about the hockey assists? You know the play that happens before the direct play that leads to a score. It’s a huge part of this ETA Thunder Walden’s success! Maggie does so much of the dirty work too. She sits down and defends extremely well causing deflections, & turnovers! I always tell everyone that the non-traditional stats tell more about the overall game. Townsend doesn’t put up the bad, out of control shots. She’s a smart player that is willing to always do whatever is needed. I keep telling kids to be more like Gabbie Marshall. We need more athletes like Gabbie Marshall at the next level. If Maggie keeps working, there will be a place for her at the next level too!

—A really nice “connector” that plays hard on D. Makes the right pass on time and on target. Scored a few nice buckets off the bounce, finishing off 1 or 2 feet.
Championshp game: Hit a HUGE 3 to go on a personal 4-0 run (also hit a FT). Gave them HUGE mintues in winning time.

So many young athletes want the ball in their hands at all times. Maggie has learned to play off the ball and impact the game in more ways than scoring. One thing that I learned fast about Townsend is that she is completely unselfish. At times, she may even be too unselfish! I loved the tough offensive rebounding and put backs! You can tell right away that she is the athlete that will do whatever is asked of her! A young impactful player that will shine in her role and do what it takes for her team!

Townsend is so improved from last summer. Practicing with Sevier County every day will do that for you. And she plays like a Sevier County kid–great defender and rebounder, high IQ, and really improving as a shooter. She impacts the game on both ends. Stars in her role.

One of my favorite, “under the radar” 2027s (spoiler alert: she’ll be appearing in more articles to come). She has nice physical tools: size, length, moves well, springy. Great attitude and effort kid. High level defender. And her offensive game have really developed over the past year! (That’s one of the perks of practicing everyday with kids as talented as they have at Sevier County).

Townsend is a 2027 that is flown under the radar a bit individually as she’s on a loaded Sevier County team. But, Townsend has been able to carve out a valuable role off the bench, and her minutes has grown through the season. She’s earned the trust of her team’s coach’s and upperclassmen, and it’s really an impressive feat given the depth of Sevier for a freshman to earn minutes. She’s also an extremely high character kid!
Remember, every player’s journey is different….embrace being a “star in your role” and good things tend to happen. They have for
