About Makenna
Expert Analysis

Makenna had one of those days that really excites you as a scout. A year ago, she was a Top Performer, and she delivered an even bigger performance at the Big North Shootout on Monday. Her athleticism, length, and relentless motor immediately catch your attention as a next-level guard-wing prospect. She pushed the ball up the floor with pace and finished full-speed layups comfortably with her right and left at the rim without slowing down. I noted her athletic frame and length. Makenna was a defensive game wrecker, intercepting passes on the perimeter, then breaking away for transition layups. She changed directions suddenly with effective crossover dribbles, shifted into a higher gear at the second level, then blew by for layups. Makenna has a no-quit mindset: she plays with endless energy. No layup was safe, and she had many blocks throughout the day. She sprinted in and elevated off the floor to block shots, then crashed hard to score offensive rebound putbacks on the offensive end. Makenna forced two misses on the defensive end from block to block with her quick feet and ripped the ball away to secure the rebound. She attacked off the dribble, spun, then scored the and-one layup. Makenna drove downhill with determination, absorbed contact, and finished with her left. She beat a defender with a smart backdoor cut, caught the pass with good hands in stride, and finished the layup. She’s a multisport athlete (basketball, volleyball, soccer) coming off a state championship in soccer. Basketball is Makenna’s primary sport, and her stock as a prospect is about to take off.

Makenna gave Harbor Springs an advantage with her defensive presence at the Boyne City Shootout. She anticipates passes with a sixth sense to create steals and cause deflections. Makenna used her length to defend the blocks and pick off entry passes. She worked hard to secure rebounds and showed her shooting range by draining a deep corner jumper. Makenna covers ground quickly in transition and makes plays across the board to help the team be successful. She changed hands seamlessly after a crossover move to score a left-handed layup off two feet.
