Expert Analysis
Evan Bell | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Mariah earned East Division First Team Honors in 2023 and based on her performance during the travel season, I expect her to have an even better senior season for East Jackson. Mariah eclipsed 1,200 career points as a junior, averaging 16.9 pts, 6.9 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 2.3 assists per game. Her determination on the court makes a statement. Mariah drives hard off the dribble to score through contact, finish off two feet, and earn free throws. She hits perimeter jumpers, battles for rebounds, and puts her body on the line to make effort plays. Mariah contributes in all areas and her passionate style of play will be a great addition at the college level.

was electrict at the Prep Girls Hoops Live. She displayed the ultimate toughness and continued to dominate despite having an injured shoulder. Mariah swiped the ball away and outraced defenders to score multiple layups in transition with both hands on her layups. She finished inside off two feet and demonstrated her ability to play without the ball. Mariah had a phenomenal tournament and gained notice from college coaches in the process.

Similarly to Freshcorn above, I still don’t think that some people realize exacttly how talented Kerley really is. She scored her 1000th point in a 53-26 East Jackson win against Addison. Kerley absolutely caught fire early in the game and continued it throughout, ending up with 29 total points.

Kerley is a versatile player that can play on or off the ball. She was ready and willing to be the go-to offensive option.

Kerley definitely started turning some heads this spring and summer. She was one of the most improved overall players, probably in the state, from the 2022 grassroots season to the end of this grassroots season. Kerley has always been a high basketball IQ player, but she really expanded her offensive game and athleticism.

Kerley sent a message loud and clear about her improved and diversified offensive game. She drew contact, go the line and delivered from there. Kerley also showed 3 point range on her jumper. She really made the defense account for her on all parts of the floor.

Kerley showed off one of the most improved offensive games in the Jackson area, and probably the state of Michigan as a whole. She’s dynamic on that end and can take and make big shots.

Match up nightmare: she has the speed to take bigs off the dribble and can post up smaller players. She showcased decent range on the day and is a good passer. She has an edge on defense and bullies defenders.

Kerley put her game and her skill set on display this high school season. She showed that she was comfortable, as well as able to excel, in being relied on as the go-to scorer for East Jackson. She tracked the ball off the rim and rebounded much bigger than her height all season. Kerley showed that she can battle down low as well as bring her opponent out to the perimeter and do work from there.
