Mariah Overton Mariah Overton 5'4" | PG/SG Hayfield Secondary | 2027 State VA showed off her shot shooting from around the perimeter on multiple occasions.  She was handling the ball well for her team, and she did a nice job relocating after the pass looking for the ball back being ready for the shot.  She led her opponents right into a trap on defense which led to some turnovers.

Overton rose to become one of the region’s best two-way guards and defensive tone-setter. She combines relentless on-ball pressure with strong decision-making, creating transition opportunities while also scoring at all three levels. With her pace, control, and high IQ on both ends, Overton became the driving force behind Hayfield’s success.

Overton controlled the pace well for Playmakers Elite Lady Bears with her combination of ball handling, court vision, and defensive activity. The point guard attacked the middle effectively, executed well in transition, and looked ahead to create opportunities for teammates with strong long passes up the floor. Overton also showcased a balanced offensive game by handling pressure confidently while remaining a scoring threat from the perimeter.

Mariah knocked down multiple threes during the time I watched her and consistently spaced the floor. She showed a good first step and speed to get into the paint and then collapsed the defense and created advantages with that penetration. She also pushed the pace effectively in transition with control. Mariah finished a smooth runner off the glass and demonstrated strong playmaking instincts, including a well-timed bounce pass and sharp angle on a post entry to reward her big. Defensively, she stood out with her ability to lock in by making solid rotations and adjustments throughout.

Mariah was good navigating through traffic. She was able to maintain her dribble until she got to the spot on the floor that she wanted to get to. She was one of the smaller players once she got in the paint but showed some creativity in getting her shot off against taller opponents.

She spaces the floor effectively, communicates well, and processes the game with a high IQ. Defensively, she anticipates passing lanes and converts takeaways into transition opportunities. Her energy and pace control allow the Hawks to sustain pressure for four quarters.
