Expert Analysis
Marissa Rimbert | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Dickson is an active guard defender who applies consistent ball pressure and anticipates passing lanes. Slides well in help defense and makes timely rotations to cut off penetration. My PGH colleague Simmie Colson caught Dickson on fire early in the season (see evaluation here), and she is still blazing heading into the playoffs.

Dickson came out on fire, and seeing her showing some electrifying moves to get by defenders had me smiling for several reasons, one of them her mom, aunt, and my daughters used to play outside against the boys growing up. Her “stop and pop” jumper looked good, so did her dropping shots “off balance” yet her acrobatic finishes need to be mentioned, along with her court vision

#42 (Up from 50)
Dickson falls into that “I knew her before she was born” group and she was born to play as my daughter, her mom and aunt, used to play against the boys when they were young but here’s the deal, she is becoming one of the top scoring guard in the area, dropping it however she wants and with her being also “long and athletic” she’s hard to contain. Her defense has shot up and she plays the passing lane

Dickson was another standout I caught at the Texas Invitational and catching up with her on the final day of the event via LIVESTREAM has her jumping 18 spots to #50 see evaluations here

Dickson weaved around defenders with ease to score off the dribble yet her “seeing the floor” both in the set as well as in transition looks even better however let me also add her ” stop and pop” jumper was hard to handle. She stayed under control, she also did a good job defending “on the ball” and came away with steals which led to scoring opportunities.

Dickson has shown she could score over the years yet watching her create her shot while being pressured was nice, especially curling off the pick to drop the jumper. Her form is nice, her release is quick, yeah “catch and shoot” included, but her creativity also shows with her variety of moves to score off the dribble

Dickson also moved up 6 slots as I caught bits and pieces of her via LIVESTREAM. She does a good job of creating her shot under pressure as well as creating spacing to get it off and drop it, from mid to long-range. She also uses a deceptive first step to set the defender up to score or dish off the dribble

Dickson falls into that “I knew her before she was born” category as her mom and aunt along with my 2 daughters used to play basketball together in elementary school so I heard tidbits about her game from others yet I never put everything together until I caught her during the playoffs see evaluation here. Here’s the deal, she was even better LIVE than LIVESTREAM and watching er set the defender up using the slight HEZ or the crossover got me going, so did her acrobatic finishes but she also did a good job dropping the mid to long-range jumper, as well as playing the passing lane. Her defense was solid, she’s a “long and athletic” guard so her upside is also good

Dickson took me back to yesteryear and I’m using a phrase that the old folks used to tell me “I knew you before you were born”. Her mom and aunt used to play outside shooting basketball with my children when they were in elementary school and to be honest, I hadn’t seen Mariyah since she entered high school and was even clueless on where she attended high school yet her poise handling the ball under pressure was definitely a plus for me, along with her seeing the floor in the set as well as in transition. She did a good job creating her shot for the jumper as well as attacking off the dribble
