Smith is another extremely underrated player. She was one of the biggest keys for a Mercy team that remained in the top 25 all season long. What she brought to the floor couldn’t always be seen in the stat sheet, but it was always evident when you watched her team play. She could handle and distribute the ball extremely well. Smith also could score the ball inside or out, though she was consistently looking to get the ball to her teammates. She averaged 9.8 PPG and 2.3 RPG. I wish I had stats like assists and steals because I know those numbers had to be high as well. Smith could really impact the game on both sides of the ball and Mercy will greatly miss her presence on the floor next season.

When I’ve watched Mercy play this year, Smith has been a glue player. Even when she’s not scoring, she adds a ton of value. Offensively, she can handle the ball and she does a great job of drawing help defense to get her teammates open looks. She also is a solid scoring threat. She can knock down 3’s, get to the rim, or score in transition. Smith is averaging 9.5 PPG and is shooting over 37% from deep. Defensively, she can get key stops and come up with steals. When you think of a player that does a little bit of everything, Smith certainly fits that mold.

She caught everyone’s eyes on Sunday as she put on show at the game. The senior wing is a great leader on and off the floor, has a great quick outside shot to make it hard for her defender to get out on her. Excellent court vision as she makes the extra pass to her teammates. She is a huge part of the Mercy Academy team.

Smith is one of the best defenders around, but she is also a reliable scorer. She averaged 10.6 PPG and 3.6 RPG last season.

Smith is a shooter (34% three-pointers and 75.3% free throws) that will make you pay should you think that she is the player you can sag off of to double up against any of the other top players on the team. She put up 10.6 points and grabbed 3.6 rebounds last season using a quick first step to blow past her defneders and excellent shot fakes if the blow by attempt doesn’t pay off. rnAgainst heavy pressure Smith is strong and poised with the ball. A steady hand like her is so crucial to winning games on the highest levels of Kentucky High School Girls Basketball. This skill more than any others Smith has to display is perhaps her best attrbute that powers her teaam to victory. That and her defense prowess in limiting the output of opposing guards and creating a few turnovers make her an invaluable asset for the Jaguars.
