Maya continues to improve every time out! You can see some definitive defensive growth has really taken a jump and it showed this weekend. She defended with a ton of confidence and intensity while continuing to excel offensively as an off-ball guard that attacks gaps and gets downhill to the rim effectively. She is one to watch this summer.

She is on a mission early in her junior season, leading Great Crossing in scoring at 19 points per game. On Saturday, she delivered a career performance against Rockcastle County, finishing with a game-high 29 points and 3 steals while going a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. (Featured Image)

Custard came on strong last season for the Lady Cards after missing time due to transfer restrictions. Once she was on the court, Maya was the second leading scorer for Scott County at nearly 9 points per game. The Custard family are known to be good athletes in the Georgetown/Cynthiana area and Maya is no different. She uses a quick first step to get into the paint and score. If Maya can improve her three point shooting as a Junior, she should have a monster Junior season.

Maya was one of my favorite players at the Freshman event last year but her actual Freshman season was up and down with her transfer from Great Crossing to Scott County. The Lady Cardinals should be formidable this season and Custard is ready for a big role as she showed she can be an impact player with her size and her above average athleticism.

I didn’t get to see Maya much during the AAU season, so I was really looking for to watching her compete at the Expo. I like the way she made her presence felt on both ends of the floor. Maya hounded ball handlers on defense and was very effective off the dribble on offense. I’m eager to see what she does at Scott County this season.

Great Crossing was well represented at camp on Saturday and Custard showed she is ready to help the Warhawks as a freshman. Maya was an efficient scorer and showed a midrange game that others didn’t display. She also showed that she can finish through contact at the rim and didn’t take plays off on defense.
