was showing off some tough drives to the basket absorbing contact and making adjustments to hit her shot. She sees the floor well finding her open teammates up the court hitting them in stride for fast breaks. She’s a tough defender getting her hands in the way grabbing the steal. She had nice spin move in the paint getting to the rim and scoring on a tough take.

was a defensive mastermind getting steals to create stops right when her team needed some energy. She took the ball all the way to the rim herself, or she found her open teammate flashing to the block for the pass. She draws defenders toward her to create the open space for her teammates. She crashes the boards, too, extending plays to get some points off offensive rebounds. She sees the floor well being able to make the entry pass into her teammate on the block.

McCorkle does it all for her team on the court. She can score from anywhere, she rebounds with urgency, she is a terrific defender, and she creates several assists each contest. When McCorkle catches the basketball on the wing, she can light up the opposition from three. She can also score in the paint with consistency or McCorkle can lead the break and score at full speed. She is an exceptional athlete who wants to win. McCorkle is a team player who competes on both ends of the court for her team.

helped lead her team all the way to being the state champion this season, and I don’t think she plans on slowing down any time soon. She can do it all on the court handling the ball and controlling the tempo to getting inside scoring her points against post players. She sees the floor well knowing how to get the ball to the open teammate. Her defense is fun to watch as she has a range of who she can guard, and she always keeps her head on a swivel being able to grab the steal.

Maya McCorkle was playing tough defense guarding the opponent’s leading scorer. She was flashing in and out of the paint shifting the defense and finding the open look to score off the pass. She was making some acrobatic moves getting to the basket and scoring off the glass even with hands in her face. She had back to back plays scoring five points in a row with her shot from deep and her ability to attack the basket from the top of the key.

Maya McCorkle has been having an excellent season stepping up as the leader for her Cannon team. She’s been explosive getting to the basket and making plays at the rim, and she can handle the ball well creating her own space to put up her jumper. She’s been aggressive on defense, too, jumping in front of passing lanes and pushing these steals up the court for some fast break points. Her ability to see the floor and make adjustments is an asset getting the ball to her teammates.

is a junior at Cannon High School. She is a strong guard with great speed. She has a high basketball IQ and runs the show for the Cougars. McCorkle is a ferocious defender who forces multiple steals each game because of how she pressures the basketball. This season, McCorkle is scoring 15 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and leading her team in assists. She has fantastic court vision and is a willing passer in the open court.

Maya’s overall improvement as a basketball player is one of the best in North Carolina. She has the developed the speed and quickness it takes to be a high level guard and she has truly separated herself. She had a play during Saturday’s contest where she was able to utilize a beautiful quick first step by her defender followed by a floater in the lane. She is played at a different speed right now. She is much stronger than it appears and you have to just lover her overall skillset. She was able to get into the lane nearly anytime she wanted and she can defend at a very high level at the guard spot. Whoever lands this special talent is in for a real treat.

, was showing off how aggressive and effective she can be with the ball in her hands driving hard to the hoop scoring through contact. She does such a nice job finding her open teammates underneath the basket getting the open look to score some points for her team. She pushes the tempo finding her open teammates making a nice pass running full speed for the fast break points. Her touch off the glass is critical making tough shots right when her team needs to extend the lead. She came up with a big steal and push up the court preventing her opponents from making a run late in the game.

Maya McCorkle was hot from deep late in a tight game for her team showing how she can make shots even under a lot of pressure. She was controlling the tempo handling the ball, and she did a nice job sliding around the perimeter to find the openings to score. She’s tough on defense, too, stripping the ball from her opponents to take the other direction.
