McKinsey imposed her will in the paint for Canton at HYPE on Sunday. She defended forwards very well inside, moving her feet to block shots without fouling. McKinsey battled for offensive rebounds, got fouled, and sank both free throws. McKinsey attacked downhill from the wing to score a contested layup with a soft touch off the glass. McKinsey showed off her footwork, combining a quick jab with a drop-step move to score a fadeaway jumper off the glass. McKinsey will be a powerful KLAA post prospect this winter.

McKinsey has a physical stature that clearly towers above others, she’s over 6 feet tall and runs like a wing in transition. McKinsey was clutch for the Chiefs last season, scoring a team-high 18 points in her first district playoff game. She has good foot speed, which gives her an advantage attacking off the dribble and defending post players. McKinsey extends her range outside to hit perimeter shots and is an excellent shot blocker. I expect her to be a dominant double-double performer and All-Conference candidate in 2024.

2027. Her height, strength, balance, and quickness give her an advantage over other posts on the floor. McKinsey anticipated passes, stole the ball, and finished at the rim. One of her wow moments happened after she secured a defensive rebound, dribbled the full length of the court, and scored using a high pick up euro-step at the rim. McKinsey drilled her free throws and protected the paint with her shot blocking.

Berlin is a scary prospect for future Canton High School opponents. We knew she was a very talented post player coming in as a freshman, but she just kept getting better and more comfortable as the season went along. Berlin was a menace in the paint on the defensive end of the floor with her ability to block shots and redirect ball handlers that attack the lane.

I highlighted this game between rivals Canton and Salem as one to watch yesterday. Canton stepped up big time and Berlin was a big reason why. She’s easily one of the most talented freshman post players in the state and her dominance in in the paint was very evident last night. Berlin finished with 13 points, 6 rebounds and an eye opening defensive performance.

Berlin is a terrific talent at Canton High School. She has the looks of an instant impact player. Berlin’s post defense could be a huge factor for her team this year. Opponents will have to be very aware of her ability to alter shots and make good looks turn bad. She has a versatile offensive game that can provide some tough mismatches.
