Expert Analysis

Several college coaching staff in the Midwest at the D2, D3, NAIA, and Juco levels should be keeping an eye on Melanie Pfab of Dubuque High School because of her combination of size, skill, smarts, and future potential within this sport. Pfab is still a little raw within the game overall but she plays with good intent and she has intangibles that everyone look for. If she can continue to build a solid foundation and she helps her team win some more contests this Winter, it’s going to set her up for some success down the line as a Senior when looking at her collegiate options.

The only non-senior in the Senior rotation during a game at Iowa City High early in the 2025-26 season, Pfab is advanced beyond her years. The sophomore is a position-less player, in many ways, on both ends of the court. She was challenged defensively facing a Division I point guard for the Little Hawks and held her own. Lateral quickness, long arms and desire aid in that successful endeavor. On offense, Pfab flashes a good handle. It leads to benefiting off of the bounce against taller defenders, especially. She can take smaller guards inside, where she can shoot effectively with either hand. Only beginning her second year as a prep, Pfab is one to watch moving forward.
