Expert Analysis
Evan Bell | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Mya is going D1 for volleyball (Baylor), and she showed everyone why she’s also a D1 basketball prospect at the Breslin Center. Her 6-foot-plus frame, freakish athleticism, ruthless shot-blocking, mobility, and relentless rebounding were factors no team had an answer for. She posted 15 points, 15 rebounds, five steals, and four blocks to help Ishpeming edge out its toughest challenger of the season in Morenci. Then Mya turned in a near triple-double with 18 points, 17 rebounds, nine blocks, and six steals in the Championship Game, guiding the Hematities to their second state title in three years. She closed out to block shots with ferocity on the perimeter and in the paint. Mya swiped the ball away on the perimeter, pushed it the length of the floor using both hands, and finished with a strong and-one layup. She scored putbacks at will, including an athletic tip-in, posted up defenders to score off entry passes, and knocked down shots from the charity stripe. Mya hit double-digits in four categories during her two games at the Breslin Center with 33 points, 32 rebounds, 13 blocks, and 11 steals. She is the 2026 D4 All-Breslin Team MVP.

Mya went toe-to-toe with Michigan’s top forward prospect at the MBA Mother’s Day Classic and cemented herself as not only a power four volleyball prospect (Baylor Commit) but also a high-level basketball prospect. Her athleticism, strength, mobility, size, shot-blocking, rebounding, footwork, and finishing touch around the basket fit the mold of an elite power forward. Mya was a crucial member of Ishpeming’s 2024 State Championship team and is one of the best forwards to ever come out of the U.P. She’s a double-double machine and a major reason why Ishpeming is the D4 favorite.

Mya is the best prospect in the 2026 class that most people probably have never seen or heard of. She went toe to toe with Michigan’s top post prospect at the MBA Mother’s Day Classic and would have D1/D2 colleges in Michigan blowing up her inbox had she not already committed to Baylor University for volleyball. Mya helped lead Ishpeming to a D4 state championship in 2024; her freakish athleticism, strength, size, and college potential left a lasting impression. Mya is, without question, the best forward north of the Mackinac Bridge and one of the best in the state.

Mya was an athletic force for Ishpeming during their historic state title run two years ago. She gave the Hematities an advantage inside that helped them secure the D4 state title and earned D4 All-Breslin Honors in the process. Mya came down for the MBA Mother’s Day Classic with Zero Star Basketball , and competed well against Michigan’s best forward prospect. Mya pivoted and used a great counter move to score with soft touch off the glass. She created separation with a jab step before sinking a long floater. Mya battled inside to secure offensive rebounds, scoring many put-backs, including a strong and-one. She chased down a breakaway to deflect a pass out of bounds and showed her athleticism by finishing reverse layups off the dribble. She competed hard and communicated with high energy throughout the day. Mya showed her worth as a D1 basketball prospect on Saturday. She has committed to Baylor University for volleyball.
