of CR – Prairie High School but at the end of the day, Diaz-Doolin has committed to William Penn to kick off her college career following these next few months. Diaz-Doolin proved her worth several times this Winter while helping her team to a 5A State appearance. She was a player that moved between the 2, 3, 4, and even at the 5 spot at times and she always yielded some positive results where ever she was. There were a few times this Winter when I was in attendance and Diaz-Doolin was playing LOCK-DOWN defense on whoever was in front of her. I think that’s where she makes her money at the next level. She will see the floor and stay on it because she can play defense. Something that is sensible from an outside perspective.

and how she started off this Senior season with her Cedar Rapids Prairie Program. Diaz-Doolin has been a staple of the Hawks. She is playing multiple positions, all over the floor and yielding some positive results each time because of her dedication to doing things the right way. If had the chance to watch this Hawks team multiple times this Winter and there were three specific possessions that Diaz-Doolin “proved” herself to me. Each time she was tasked with guarding a high-end D1 committed prospect in the half-court, alone, as that high end prospect tried to take her in an isolation matchup. Each time, DD was LOCK down. She stayed disciplined and recorded a stop each possession because of it. This is someone that has some options as to where she might take things after this season but I’m sure that she is focused on nothing other than bringing home a 5A State Title. Something that is starting to look more and more possible with every win they record.

The CR – Prairie Hawk have started off their season with a bang, beating three very impressive teams in Davenport North, Bishop Heelan, and Mount Vernon. This is easily the best start to the season for any high school team in the state of Iowa when taking into consideration their early opponents, the location of each contest, and the prospects that they have on their roster. Someone who was VITAL in their win against a top ranking 4A team in Mount Vernon last night was

. The Mustangs have a unique defensive strategy. They don’t seem to respect other Forwards or Centers shooting ability while their 6’2 Center –

plays defense. She just sits in the lane to protect the hoop while everyone else is in man2man and this gave Neveah some big-time confidence. She started off the contest by banging a three ball right off the bat and it didn’t end there. The Hawks were actually down by 10 at half time but came roaring back with a new defensive strategy in the third quarter, while Diaz-Doolin caught on fire even more from the outside. All in all, Prairie is a state contender right now. It’s really early in their season but they have proven that they can out-strategize anyone up until this point. That alone will win them a lot of games. When you pair that with their roster of college level prospects, things become even more clear from an outside point-of-view.

“Prairie High School is going to be a big question mark going into this Winter. They could do really well, really poorly, or in-between. It all depends on what their upperclassman + KeaOnna Worley can put together. Someone that might be important in their puzzle is SG, Neva’eh Diaz-Doolin. Doolin is going to have big moments to step up as a Senior this next eight months and she should kill it. This weekend in the city she has been fundamental, reliable, and calm in all of her actions under pressure. If she keeps this momentum moving forward, this Winter could be her best season of basketball yet.”

. Doolin is going to be someone that has the ability to move between the 1 and then 2 spot. She is at her best while attacking off of a screen or going down hill but she is also very good at slowing up the offense and running some tempo within her team’s system. I’m assuming that this group is going to run a 5-0 style offense with all the pieces that they have. Their Guards are really quick moving and their Forwards are versatile. As long as they run a solid system, everyone is going to do well, Doolin included.

is a player who can play multiple positions on the floor. She can shoot the ball and play off the catch very efficiently. When she drives to the basket, this player plays with a lot of aggression and understands how much stronger she if off of two feet. She bumps on her drives to stay in the driving lane and finishes well with both hands. One of my favorite things about this player is her ability to also shoot off the dribble with proper footwork. Additionally, when it comes to shooting, Diaz-Doolin understands coaches would rather misses be long vs short. There wasn’t a bad shot she took at the Showcase. Cedar Rapids Prairie will be making some noise this season with a loaded roster!

Shifty combo guard with solid size for her position. Can handle the ball well. Understands situational basketball better than most at this age level. Consistent finisher at the rim. Moves well from side to side when playing defense against a quicker offensive opponent. Plays with heart and passion, in a controlled way.
