Talk about trusting the process; this kid did just that. She worked her tail off in the gym and competed. No matter if it was in practice or in games, she got after it and seized every opportunity. Her coach played a tough non-conference schedule that enabled her to go toe-to-toe with some pretty good competition. Add in her opportunities on the travel ball circuit, this young lady rose to the occasion. She will be heading down to Tallahassee to suit up for Florida A&M. Look for her to go down there and show them what Tennessee basketball is all about. Great kid who is going to be a solid addition to that program.

Senior PG is the floor leader for the Lady Centurions. Her bigs may receive a lot of love, but she quietly works behind the scenes. Averaging 15 ppg, she receives a lot of kickout passes and open shot attempts that are freed up from double-teams placed on her interior teammates. Plays with speed, can get downhill, and plays super tough defense.

Niah created quite a buzz at the Inside Exposure events in Emerson, GA. She played at a high level for a talented TN SOL United 17U squad and was determined to leave it all on the floor for her last AAU season. At the War Games 28.5 she put up 15 pts, 2 rebs, 1 stl, and 1 ast in game 1 against FBC Legacy. She followed that performance with 13 pts, 3 rebs, and 3 ast in game 2 against Team Porter E40. Niah also competed hard at the ATL Summer Slam and went off for a team-high 21 pts, along with 4 rebs, 1 stl, 1 ast against FBC Caroline Elite and garnered enough attention to pick up a D1 offer from Tennessee State University.

Rhodes hit an early three. Got to her floater game. When the D collapsed she was making the correct reads. Hit a huge 3 in the 2nd half, followed by a nice floater, and another midrange jumper. Had 7 points in a 3:00 minute stretch in the 2nd half. Nuanced scoring bag.

I really like Niah Rhoades! One of the best players out of Kentucky, she showed off a quick trigger with supreme confidence. Really battles on the glass, and will pull it and immediately turn it into a fast break.

Rhodes will be playing with West Virginia Thunder’s 17U S40 team and is poised for a big offseason. She already holds some offers, but I think she has a chance to get a lot more this spring/summer. In her junior season, Rhodes led Frederick Douglass in scoring at 16.4 PPG while shooting over 35% from 3 and 81% from the free throw line. She has deep range on her shot and you can’t give her much space without her making you pay. Rhodes is not just a shooter though, she can handle the ball and makes great drives to the basket while also being able to pull-up in the midrange. I think any coaches that have shown interest in the past will be impressed by the way she’s grown her game since last AAU season.

Rhodes looked unstoppable in this game, it seemed like every time I looked up from my notes she scored another basket. Rhodes is widely known as one the top shooter’s in Kentucky, after she led the state in 3-pointers made last season as a sophomore. She was in attack mode all game, she showed that she can not only spot-up and shoot the three but that she can put the ball on the floor and create her own shot off the dribble as well. She displayed a step-back move that looked almost impossible for defenders to guard. Rhodes also moved well without the ball and did a great job coming off of down screens and pulling up from mid range with a very quick release. My favorite play of the game from her was in the fourth quarter, she came down with an offensive rebound, then drove to the basket and finished with a tough “And 1” floater in the lane that got a big reaction from the crowd.

One of the smoothest guards in the state, Niah moves up from 13th overall to 4th in the class. Rhodes had a big Sophomore season for Douglass and should be even better this season. A super talented scorer!
