Expert Analysis
Sam Duren | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
A promising combo forward with good athleticism, Powell provided a huge spark on the bench. Hit an open jumper in the mid-range. Otherwise did her work around the rim, even attacking out of the high post for a big time finish through contact. She converted the free throw and that got Metro within three in the fourth. While it was a bitter ending, her performance in state is a fantastic building block. If she can continue to refine her raw edges, she could be a real force as a sophomore. And beyond.

Powell was covered in Instant Reactions. After going through more notes and footage from the camp, her all around defensive impact was underreported in that write up. Disruptive in passing lanes with deflections, getting out to trap and denying when covering off the ball. Continued to be impressed with the potential of intangibles and athleticism.

Energy always stands out and that was the case for Powell. Her effort was most apparent in how she ran the floor hard and attacked the glass. Especially on the offensive end. Always seemed to be the one to corral rebounds and then quickly score. Looks to be a better athlete then her older sister, Natalie (who’s a very good senior shooter). There’s room to grow on the skill side but enthusiasm and athleticism are a great starting point for the 918 standout’s high school career.
