About Rachel

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

Aggressive on defense in the paint and strategic player. Court awareness and strong basketball IQ knowing when to make crucial passes and when set quality screens or cuts. Can knock down a 3, finish with my left or hit a mid-range, and doesn’t hesitate to drive to the basket when the opportunity arises.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I am a positive person with a determined personality and a strong sense of self-awareness. I'm competitive and very team-oriented and values collaboration. I am also level-headed, staying calm under pressure and making thoughtful decisions. I'm genuine and approachable.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I also play softball for my high school

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I work part time as a referee for i9 sports (basketball, volleyball and soccer). I have helped coach youth rec basketball teams and I enjoy volunteering at a neighboring town's nursing home when I can.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

My dad suffered significant health issues requiring him to relearn how to walk when I was in elementary school. These events had a profound impact on me, and I had to mature quickly and become more independent. I learned resilience, adaptability, and empathy, shaping me into a more compassionate and determined person who values perseverance and the support of loved ones during tough times.

What type of college are you looking for?

My current interest for possible majors include: medical/nursing; criminal/law or marine biology and I'm looking for colleges that have one or more of those options as I narrow down my field of interest.

This sophomore is exciting to watch. Playing a transfer season, she didn’t let that stop her from getting it done on the court. Hilliard has a wingspan that elevates her game at her SG position. She uses her length and power on offense to get around her defender for easy buckets. She is confident with the ball in her hands and can be counted on to help bring the ball up the court under pressure and keep the offense flowing for quality scores. With the ball in her hands, Rachel can score from the wing, or the high post. She has the skills to also play with her back to the basket making her a true triple threat. On defense, look for Hilliard to get in stance and defend in the full court and in half court pressure. She is agressive on the boards, using her length to snatch rebounds even over taller post players. Hilliard will be a key for Mountain Vista to continue their on court success in the future.
