Expert Analysis
Ryan Oppenheimer | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Heiken won the 4A Player of the Year award as a sophomore in 2025, the year Philomath advanced to the title game. 2026 may have been a bit of a disappointment for the Warriors in comparison, but that might just set up an even hungrier bounce-back in 2027. Heiken can essentially play any position and is involved in almost every play as a scorer or initiator. She brings the ball up, runs the pick and roll, and can throw her weight around in the post, on the boards, or as a screener. She has many skills and doesn’t have to rely on just one — she can affect the game based on whatever is working best for her on any given night. Defensively, she has active hands and has the ability to average close to three steals per game.

Valley Tropics 5-foot-10 forward Reagan Heiken Reagan Heiken 5'10" | PF/CG Philomath | 2027 State OR is a smart, athletic, and positionless two-way player. Heiken seems to play more as a big on her club team and a guard on her high school team, but she gets to the rim either way. The sophomore can drive strong and finish soft at the basket through traffic and the foul. Even at full speed on a breakaway layup, she absorbs contact, hangs in the air, and has a controlled finish. She can post up and finish inside. She’s effective in the pick-and-roll action. She has great vision and passing. She follows her miss for the offensive rebound and putback.

She runs the court and scores or dishes in transition. Heiken cuts backdoor in the paint or seals the defender on the post-up to receive the entry pass. She’s strong with the ball. Heiken has great footwork in the paint and is tough at the rim through contact to draw the foul. She has a sweet spin move before the drive or the uptake and can finish an athletic reverse layup through traffic.

Reagan Heiken Reagan Heiken 5'10" | PF/CG Philomath | 2027 State OR has already proved herself as one of the most valuable pieces on a talented Philomath team. The 6’0 power forward is a quick, elite athlete who has no trouble grabbing a steal and taking the ball coast to coast before anyone has a chance to get back. She is a consistent force on the boards, and as she gets older, she will be one to watch for lots of double-doubles. In a few of the Warriors’ most recent games, Heiken had 12 points, 5 rebounds, a steal, and a block against Scappoose; 5 points — including the game-winning free throws — 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals, and 1 block over Amity; and 9 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals versus Estacada. With her athleticism as well as her skill set, Heiken is like a guard, but in a big’s body, and she will be scary as she continues to get better and better. As only a freshman, Heiken has shown immense maturity in big moments and has had some of her best performances against the best teams.
