How a team wins the tough games against tough opponents can determine if a team really is ready for tournament time. Clover had one of those hard-fought contests against another tough 5A out in Greenwood. Thanks to the 14 points placed on the scoreboard by the Blue Eagles’ veteran big, Clover pulled off a 45-42 victory over Greenwood. Lucas provided an early boost for Clover as nine of her 14 were scored in the first quarter. In addition to being able to convert on high-percentage baskets close to the rim, Lucas also can display how effective she is in the midrange game. Rebounding and defense are two other strong points to her well-developed skillset. Clover will be a team to watch very closely throughout state play and Lucas would love to finish her high school career with a trip to Florence in early March.

Lucas is a legit back to the basket post player down in the paint. Samara has no problems mixing it up and playing through contact at times. She was able to connect on a few jumpers today from a short distance. Lucas can put the ball on the deck for a handful of dribbles and try to get by bigger defenders.

was constantly a problem on defense blocking shots in the paint and grabbing rebounds on both ends. She comes right into games ready to play tough on both ends knowing exactly how to fill in the lanes flashing in the paint to get the pass. She consistently shows off her ability to score on multiple levels getting open and staying ready to put up her shot.

Lucas was able to step-out to hit the short 15-17 footer jumper at times. Samara looks to carve out space down on the block and work from side to side in the paint. She was able to be used as a mover-screener at times while doing a nice job of sealing the defender down low. Samara finished plays on contact and was very effective down in the paint for her squad.

Lucas and the Lady Blue Eagles currently stand at (14-5) in Class 5A. She’s averaging 8.8 ppg on a very well-balanced squad along with 5.9 rebounds. Samara plays active on both ends of the floor for the Lady Blue Eagles. She will play with her back to the basket and post up. Samara does a good job of getting position down low for a productive shot at times.
