combined for 37 points in two playoff wins for Benson. Massey, an unsigned D1-level prospect, boasts a strong frame, runs the floor, and is explosive on the bounce in the paint. The senior leader brings state tournament experience to the Astros, who will take on the Cinderella team, No. 11 Oregon City, in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

had an impressive game against China CBHL. She had 14 pts, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Samarah has truly risen to every challenge set in front of her and her team this season. She embodies what being a senior and a leader is all about on the court. She isn’t afraid to take on contact, sometimes with two or three players at a time, at the rim. She drives with her off hand just as consistently as her dominant.
She can hit a shot from anywhere on the floor and she has dimes when passing the ball. She can really thread the needle and she can anticipate well on defense with steals and blocks. Job well done tonight indeed!
When interviewing Samarah after the game, she said, “ I think what was tough about playing against China, was trying to front their bigs, because we haven’t seen that type of height yet.” She also stated she, “enjoyed being able to see how different girls from around the world play and it was a good experience being able to play against them.”

continues to bring the upperclassman leadership that is so valuable to a young and very talented Benson squad. Massey is a strong playmaker in the paint who can dish or finish around the rim. She also runs the court for transition buckets. Massey averaged 12 points (shooting 52% from the field), 6 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game in the Holiday Classic Diamond bracket.

, a strong senior combo guard for the Astros, helped keep pressure on Nelson from the jump. She led the team in attacking the rim on offense. With 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, her presence on the floor was a big factor in how Benson kept the lead. In such a physical matchup, Massey went down just before the half, after colliding with the opposing team. It was her heart and determination that gave her the willpower to get back in the second half and finish the game strong, pulling out a victory.

Benson is a team oozing with talent but still lacking experience. Massey is going to bring that to the Astros this year as one of their three seniors, and she’s also going to bring a ton of scoring punch. Massey immediately found her stroke from deep in her opening game against South Salem, and she ended up being Benson’s leading scorer in a 15-10 win. She is exceedingly comfortable with the basketball and pushes the pace more than your average power forward. She is also known as a tenacious defender whose energy Benson feeds off of. Watch out.

is a strong power forward from Benson High School. She’s entering her senior season and standing out with her offensive strengths and defensive presence on the court.
This past weekend, Samara stood out for her aggressive performance down the stretch in a battle between Benson and Camas. She was attacking the hoop and getting to the rim to help her team. Her defense was strong with getting into help-side and communicating to her teammates. It was her determination and confidence that helped them to victory. Samara should finish out her high school career with some great looks at the next level. Keep up the great work!

has played a huge role in that. The reigning PIL defensive player of the year, Massey is constantly a leader on the defensive end of the floor, making an impact as one of the top defenders in the state. As a sophomore, however, Massey has been growing offensively at an impressive rate, which was on full display when she was the Techies’ offensive spark with her 16-point, 8-rebound performance in the narrow loss to Clackamas earlier this season. Her versatility is something that can’t be taught.

was named the Defensive Player of the Year in the Portland Interscholastic League (PIL)… as a freshman. She has continued on with this excellent defensive play in her sophomore campaign as Benson has gotten off to an impressive 7-4 start and sits at #10 in the state at the moment. She is an elite athlete and on-ball defender who sets the tone defensively for the Techsters night in and night out. In addition to her obvious abilities on defense, Massey has been elevating her game on the offensive end as well, as shown by her big-time 16-point, 8-rebound performance in the close loss to Clackamas. The sophomore is looking scary and she will only continue to get better, and it all starts with her inspiring play on the defensive end of the floor.
