Expert Analysis
Mike Benson | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Helderop was an All-WDA selection in 2024-2025 for the Braves. She was a steady ball-handler and did a great job of getting her team into their offensive sets. She was really good against the press and was excellent at limiting her turnovers. She will be critical to helping Mandan back to the state tournament this season. They have some hurdles to overcome: a new coaching staff and a departure of a Division 1 player. I am confident Sarah will be ready to calm the storm and have her team ready to go.

Sarah is a quality guard and someone who I enjoy watching play. She is an above average shooter and can knock down the three. She is averaging just under 10 points per game and plays the game with great poise. I like how hard she competes defensively and her ability to handle the ball. Having multiple guards on the floor that can handle the ball is a great luxury as a coach.

Sarah showed her leadership on Tuesday and did a nice job of taking on a bigger role in the ball-handling department. I was impressed with her in the press and I thought she did a pretty good job with her decision making on the offensive side. She had two really nice ball-screen refusal plays to the baseline, one for a layup and one for a shooting foul. She competed hard all night and is a quality player for the Braves.

Sarah had an excellent game against the Deacons. She is a very quick, savvy guard. She finished the game with 8 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. She was a great option for initiating the offense and knocked down two three pointers to get Mandan going early. I like how hard Sarah plays and her ability to make quality decisions on the floor. Sarah is also an excellent on-ball defender. Teams will have a hard time pressuring Mandan with Sarah in the back-court.
