About Serenity

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am an aggressive ball handler with a team first mentality, who begins every game with quick, strong offense and communication, and even stronger defense. A strong team moves together. I run the floor with my teammates strengths in mind, initiating aggression, ready to dominate with fundamentals and fluidity. Assists are my passion. I am a strong 3 point shooter and strong in the paint.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I work hard for what I have. I understand commitment and dedication. God and family come first. I also enjoy making others happy and helping where I can. My friends are important to me outside of basketball. We enjoy staying active.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I’m involved in band and my local church. I have received math and STEM awards. I’m also interested in STEM.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I was chosen to be team captain of my AAU club team this summer. I develop leadership skills through STEM programs. I take part in community service through my church.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I live in a single parent home. I run lemonade stands and have developed other small ways of earning money to work my way towards participating in AAU basketball leagues over the past 3 years. I also have some health conditions that I have overcome to ensure safe, consistent progress toward my athletic goals.

What type of college are you looking for?

My ultimate goal is to attend a D1 school and play basketball. I train daily to work towards that goal. If that is unattainable, I intend to play basketball at any school I have the opportunity to play for that also has a solid science program.

This past season, 6A Buckhorn compiled a solid record of 20-11. The addition of Gilliam to the Bucks ought to continue the team’s winning ways. Gilliam helped Alabama Dream 15U to a successful 3-1 Peach Games weekend. She places plenty of emphasis on defense that can clog up the passing lanes of an opposing team. Once Gilliam gets her hands on the ball, it is an additional offensive possession for her team – and possibly more points as well. Gilliam is listed at 5-foot-2 and is already full of talent – one that should become even more pronounced as she gains more experience competing against her high school peers.
