Extremely skilled and versatile forward that can play inside/out. She can stretch the court with her three point shooting capability and is agile enough to create off the ounce from the perimeter which can cause a mismatch to her opponent. Bare is really effective from the hi post area where she can knock down the mid range jumper and get down hill from the free throw line area. Shalyn can also make face up moves on the block over and around her defender. She can rebound the ball and lead a transition break, if necessary, going rim to rim.

has had a busy summer hearing from college coaches being able to perform in some big spotlights over the past year. She’s versatile where she can be, especially around the paint drawing defenders away from the block catching the pass at the free throw line. She sees the floor well from there finding her open teammates flashing to the block or taking it herself. She’s effective cleaning up the offensive glass using these to grab her some points, too.

was moving all over the paint flashing with her hands up looking for the entry pass. She can attack the basket herself from the free throw line, or she does well setting herself up to show off her footwork to get her points. She took matters into her own hands taking the ball herself, spacing out the floor, and barreling her way to the basket.

is another athlete that took her team to the state championship this year. She does well seeming to absorb contact and staying focused on scoring the bucket on the block. She flashes in and out of the paint knowing that she’s shifting the defense and using their momentum to make her move getting by them. On the other end, she’s a shot blocking machine protecting the basket.

From one school with “North” in its name to another. Steven Phillips has been head coach at 2A North Wilkes since 2014. He’s had plenty of successful years leading the Vikings – and last season was one of them. Thanks in large part to Bare, North Wilkes finished the 2023-24 season with a record of 24-6. Bare is a two-sport athlete who also competes in volleyball alongside what she does in terms of basketball. She also put together one of the signature freshman seasons throughout the Hoop State. Bare took to the court in 30 games and averaged 14.4 rebounds, 12.5 points, 2.7 steals and 1.7 blocks per game. She puts that 6-foot-2 height advantage to good use every time her sneakers make contact with the hardwood.

Bare is long and lanky. She is also skilled and competitive. She can finish with power at the rim. She can also hit her teammates for a perfectly dropped pass. Bare is a special athlete with an elite skill set. She plays hard and gives all she has for her teammates. Bare knows when to take over on offense, and she has a great feel for when to help on defense. Bare is an elite player with immense potential on the basketball floor.

has been on the radar with her height and ability to take are of business in the paint. She has some nice handles she can use catching the ball outside the paint and making her way to the hoop even showing off some nice spin moves to get the open look. She seals off opponents going to work before the pass, and she is sure to catch rebounds on both ends of the court.

Shalyn Bare is so lengthy on the court constantly getting her hands in the way on defense. She flashes all over the paint looking for the pass keeping her hands up high where her opponents can’t block her. She does well getting rebounds on both ends of the court.

Hays, NC may not be big in population but there is certainly a star brewing at North Wilkes High School. Shalyn has very good basketball instincts and is an obvious high IQ player. She is certainly a leader on the team and very vocal on defense as you can see her helping teammates get in position. She has very good size, standing over 6’0 tall and can play a multitude of positions. She can guard the middle or step out and guard the perimeter without missing a beat. She is an exceptional rebounder with very strong hands . Her length is bothersome to opponents and she can alter shots that are taken in her direction. She does a good job finishing at the rim and she plays well in transition. She runs the floor hard and at times you will see her beat everyone down the court in transition. College coaches must take note as Shalyn definitely has all the tools to be a special player.
