Ruff did an excellent job utilizing her size inside scoring, rebounding, and blocking shots in both three versus three and five versus five. Shania also helped her team on the perimeter by setting screens (legal), giving and receiving dribble-handoffs, and delivering nice passes for assists at the rim and behind the three-point line. I thought Ruff showed a good knowledge of the game and played with a high basketball IQ. She has the ability to stretch the defense with her shotmaking ability from 12-15 feet as well. Ruff showed good footwork operating in tight quarters around the rim.

The senior forward showed her versatility and power as a post player. One of her first touches she received was due to her posting hard and big. She was able to get a back to basket shot attempt. Her versatility was shown on a following possession,  when she stretched the floor for an extended short corner shot attempt.

Shot Blocker. In the 1st quarter, Shania was making it a little difficult to score at the basket. I charted her with 4 blocks in the 1st and another in the 2nd. She does a very good job of walling up, straight up and getting clean blocks.

Strong Rebounding Stretch Post. Shania isn’t a new name. I’ve been watching her since the Fall League season. She had a break out game on the day I attended finishing with a double-double, 12 points and 12 rebounds. She was able to get some of her points after getting offensive rebounds. She took a shot from the high post area. I also had her down with 2 blocks from sturdy wall ups.

Stretch Post. I often talk about Shania’s ability to stretch the floor to attack or to pass. Today, she showed me that she will also be stretching the floor and shooting. She took a couple of shots off the block including a 3 pointer.

Shania is a talented and a high IQ post player. She will be playing at a new school this season. I’m looking forward to seeing how she will adjust. She can pull defenders out the paint to set up for an attack and to pass to cutting teammates. She commands double and triple teams on the block.
