The Expo Team Six Evaluations

The talent level was high on Sunday as over 60 girls from Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama participated in the Prep Girls Hoops Tennessee Expo at Lebanon High School. Several players came into the event with interest and offers from colleges on all levels. Others took the opportunity to make a name for themselves with three evaluators and multiple college coaches in attendance. Team Six was a good mix of guards, wings, and forwards and the group had a lot of talent.    Bunn did a nice job combining her point guard and wing skills throughout the day. She impressed in both sessions of the showcase handling the basketball with the calm and cool of a much older player. On-ball pressure did not bother Aubrey, in fact she did a nice job blowing by defenders who pressed up on her too much when she had possession. Defenders who chose to play too far off also paid the price as Bunn showed the ability to knock down shots from the perimeter when given the time and opportunity. She is a very good player in the 2030 class in Tennessee.     Pflanz demonstrated very good ball skills while getting her team into the flow of the offense when handling the point guard responsibilities. She was confident and competent handling the basket under pressure and made good decisions when the help defender came. She shot the ball well from the outside and showed the ability to finish in the painted area. Defensively, Jewell used her quickness and anticipation to disrupt the flow of the offense with on ball pressure and jumping into the passing lanes.     Brooklyn is the kind of player every coach wants on their team. She is a very skilled guard capable of playing three positions on the next level. She made the selfless play and the right decision with the ball all showcase long. Evert pushed the ball in transition and found open teammates ahead multiple times when the players scrimmaged. Evert also had a really nice give and go play with a post where she gave the ball up as the point, cut to the wing, and then curled back around the post, got the ball back, and knocked down a three fading left. She is a strong kid who played well on the defensive end. She is a kid that definitely deserves a shot on the next level as I believe she can be a meaningful contributor at the right fit.     Amiah's ability to weave in and out of traffic with ease before throwing darts to her open teammates (she got them open by forcing defenders to help often) was quite impressive against a very high level of competition. Lewis was in total control with the basketball in her hands where she exuded poise and confidence. When left open and on the break, Lewis had no problem at all scoring herself. However, I personally value pass-first point guards very highly and she fits that bill to a T. Amiah was very unselfish and showed little emotion throughout the day, good or bad. It was a business trip for her and a very successful one in my eyes. Gardner-Webb was her first offer, but it certainly won't be the last. I expect that list to be over double-digits this time next year.     Kendall had a very good day on the offensive end, especially during five versus five play, where she put the ball in the basket multiple times. Peiffer really shot the basketball well when I was watching, especially from the corner where she buried multiple shots over the course of the day. She did a really good job sprinting out on the break and making herself open and available to score in transition. She has a quick release and very good follow through on her shot from three-point range. She got to the midrange using shot fakes and solid, quick ball handling combinations.     Avery had one of the better days of any of the very skilled 2030s that were in attendance at the PGH Tennessee Expo. Her youth did not affect her aggressiveness on the offensive end playing against much older players. Shooters shoot and Smith had her feet ready, shoulders squared to the basket, and was able to quickly get off and knock down shots from the perimeter consistently on Sunday. Avery is not just a shooter however, as showed finishing from the midrange and painted areas during full court play as well. She also snuck out on the break at least one time for an uncontested layup in stride. I look forward to watching her play again. She should have a very good high school career and be a kid college coaches are after in the next few years.     Franklin was a player I did not know coming into the showcase, but walked away from the event thinking very high of as a guard prospect in the 2028 class in Tennessee. She was very crafty and elusive handling the basketball which allowed her to beat the primary defender and force help from other defenders, allowing her teammates the needed space for open shots. Addie was particularly good pushing the basketball in transition, covering ground quickly as she surveyed the floor ahead. Franklin did a good job with her decision-making on when to keep the ball or when the time was right to give it up. College coaches don't let her size deter you, this kid can definitely play.     Ruff did an excellent job utilizing her size inside scoring, rebounding, and blocking shots in both three versus three and five versus five. Shania also helped her team on the perimeter by setting screens (legal), giving and receiving dribble-handoffs, and delivering nice passes for assists at the rim and behind the three-point line. I thought Ruff showed a good knowledge of the game and played with a high basketball IQ. She has the ability to stretch the defense with her shotmaking ability from 12-15 feet as well. Ruff showed good footwork operating in tight quarters around the rim.     I don't see a lot of 6' and over kids entering high school with the agility and fluidity with which Taylor moved around the court on Sunday. She did a great job at the lost art of posting up and sealing your defender in the post before extending her arms to meet incoming passes. When Dolata got the ball on the block and around the rim, she pulled out a lot of post moves in her bag. Whether it was drop-steps, spin moves, or up and under moves. Taylor got her defender out of the way and in the air before calmy finishing at close range. Not every shot went in, but she is the kind of player coaches can build a game plan around because of her skill and dexterity. She is a definitely a future college player and has the chance to play major division one basketball with continued work and improvement.
