This grassroots season was big for Shay, and even though she has been a vital piece of the puzzle for the Lady Hatchets, I could see her stepping it up another level this coming Winter and erupting offensively. She is strong, physical on the perimeter, and she is a knockdown 3-point shooter. She has great touch outside, in the mid-range game, and she is finishing around the basket. Additionally, throughout the Spring & Summer, she did a really nice job of improving her handle and awareness, operating more than ever as a combo guard.

While Shay did not put in much time playing grassroots basketball in past years, this Spring & Summer have been huge for her recruitment, as she has drawn a great deal of interest from Midwestern Division II and NAIA schools. She is a strong, physical, but athletic and balanced guard who will shoot the lights out. If she gets any rhythm whatsoever, she doesn’t need much space to score. Shay has also worked on her handle and her handle against pressure, and I know some colleges are considering her more of a point guard.

Shay has had an outstanding Spring & Summer, and I would hope her college interest picks up significantly following the weekend she has had. She is strong, physical, and tough-nosed, but she’s also skilled with the ball and an excellent perimeter shooter with a quick release. She is a talented multilevel scorer, but her improvements as both a ball-handler and defender this Summer really stand out to me. I think she is an elite small college prospect.
