About Skylar
Expert Analysis
Jill Dunn | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
A quick slashing floor general that makes winning plays with the ball in her hands. Skylar does a nice job of controlling the game and knowing when to speed it up and push the ball in the open court or slow it down and set up the half-court offense. She knows whether to deliver the bounce pass, chest pass or lob pass into the paint area. Burton is a thief on defense as she steals the ball and pick pockets a lot of opposing teams.

One word to describe Skylar is energy. Skylar plays with a ton of energy on both sides of the ball. She has a high motor and loves to harass the ball handler on defense for 94 feet. Offensively, she wants to play at a fast tempo and push the ball in transition. For a 2029 Burton shows ability to led a team both vocally and by example. Excited to see how she does in her freshman campaign with NW Cabarrus.

plays with a lot of excitement already, and she’s definitely going to bring that high energy to her high school team. She scores well from deep hitting her shot from around the perimeter. When handling the ball, she does well using her body to protect the possession attacking the basket keeping the ball away from her opponents’ hands. Her adjustments are fun to watch stopping for her jumper or making the floater.

Both Burton and her Northwest Cabarrus team are transitioning to new chapters. Burton is leaving the middle school ranks at J.N. Fries MS to begin her high school journey with the Trojans. Northwest Cabarrus itself is moving up from 3A to 5A and is in a 4A/5A conference. Along with Burton’s prowess as a scorer, she has proven herself to be a very efficient passer. The speed and quickness she possesses is another strong point to her overall game. Burton ran with Charlotte Monarchs on the grassroots circuit and will be a worthwhile addition to a Trojans team that finished 20-6 last season.
