Somerset finished with a 7-22 record on the season under first year Head Coach Andrew Laughlin. This program has lost a lot of talent over the last couple years due to graduation and players transferring so they are still trying to develop an identity as a team. Standout guard and team captain Sophie Barnes Sophie Barnes 5'5" | SG Somerset | 2026 State KY was the number one scoring option for the Briar Jumpers. She averaged a team-leading 11.3 PPG, which was almost double what she averaged as a freshman. Sophie is a lethal three-point shooter that can catch fire from deep, once she sees a couple shots go in. She also gets after it on defense and does a good job creating turnovers. I believe she will have a breakout junior year next season.

Sophie is a big time shooter from three already and the rest of her game is still a little bit of a work in progress. A third offensive option for the Briar Jumpers, Barnes is the beneficiary of open looks created by Grace and Kate Bruner right now but eventually will be the first option for Somerset and has time to get stronger and more comfortable attaching the rim.
