The transfer senior is fluent shooter that has phenomenal habits even before she lets the ball fly. Mahar is one of the best relocators and she has the conditioning to run around all game long, tiring out defenders tasked with covering her. On the next level many tactics like shading, shadow coverage and players more adroit at jumping the passing lanes will be used to counteract her skillset, but Sophie is adept enough to have her ability translate. She doesn’t just wait for the ball to come to her either; she’s locked in, prepared with active hands, ready to quickly guide the ball from the pass to her shooting pocket. Mahar then casts into her shot, the time it takes for her to get the ball off is minimal. Sophie is accurate and has a quick release, giving defenders minimal time to effectively guard the shot. Defenders must be aware of the potential from this type of shooter; she can get going very quickly. Players guarding her won’t want to be on the other end of a hot-handed Mahar.
