Sophie is one tough competitor, and you can tell she hates to lose. When she is out on the court she plays with an immense amount of intensity. She is dialed in and locked in! She will put her team on her back and carry them as far as she possibly can. If she has to have a word with her teammates to rally the troops she will find a way to get that done too.

You could not miss Soph from the time her team took the court in warm ups until the final buzzer went off, Montana was leading her team with vocal encouragement. I know how good she is as a player, but seeing her step up and not only encourage but direct traffic in a positive way for her younger teammates was impressive and quite frankly something I don’t see enough of. Montana did a great job facilitating the offense, making the right reads and pass on almost every trip down the floor when she wasn’t scoring. One play in particular she got her defender off the ground with a nice head fake after hitting multiple shots from three, drove to the basket and made Emma Fuller Emma Fuller 6'4" | PF Providence | 2028 State NC come out to help before dropping a dime for a lay up to Olivia Olivia GA Watkins. Montana shot the ball outstanding from three as per usual off the bounce and catch. These two teams and their players are very familiar with one another, but with Soph’s quick release and ability to create space she was still able to take and make multiple contested threes throughout the game.

Sophie Montana Sophie Montana 5'4" | CG Northwest Guilford | 2028 State NC has been playing like a leader for her team even in her short tenure in high school basketball.  She is an excellent shooter from deep making her range known to her opponents.  She does well with her ball handling to create the opening, or she is ready to shoot off the pass.  Her adjustments are fun to watch knowing what her defender might do to try to block her path, getting around them, and hitting her teammates with the pass to score their own points.

Sophie has definitely moved into the point guard role way more than the combo guard. She loves the ball in her hands and can distribute the basketball well off the pass. She is very good off the dribble creating plays for herself and teammates. When she does give the ball up to start the offense, she is excellent finding ways to get herself open and spotting up beyond the arc to knock down the three ball.

Sophie was a scoring machine for Northeast Guilford! She was the driving force behind a 50 to 38 win over Fireland’s high school. She accounted for almost exactly half of her teams points dropping 24 big points.

Sophie Montana Sophie Montana 5'4" | CG Northwest Guilford | 2028 State NC has been showing off her ball handling for years, and she’s stepped up in high school making it known she has range shooting the ball.  Her ability to create her own space around the perimeter with her ball handling is definitely an asset as she shoots off the dribble or does the work without the ball to get open to shoot off the pass.  She directs her teammates where to go to get some plays going as she sees the floor well thinking ahead to make sure her team gets some points.

Sophie Montana Sophie Montana 5'4" | CG Northwest Guilford | 2028 State NC was patient handling the ball at the top of the key letting plays develop and finding her open teammates.  She moves well with and without the ball finding the openings to get a play going.  She can attack the basket or make the dish as defenders collapse around her.  

Sophie Montana Sophie Montana 5'4" | CG Northwest Guilford | 2028 State NC does a nice job executing offensive plays making the pass and cutting to get to the opening.  She directs her teammates being a good floor general.  She did well getting the ball to her teammates making their cuts to the basket hitting it right in their hands to go to work.

Sophie Montana Sophie Montana 5'4" | CG Northwest Guilford | 2028 State NC came into high school ready to lead her team no matter who is on the court with her.  She can handle the ball running plays, and she does an excellent job finding the openings knocking down big shots from around the perimeter.  She makes adjustments at the rim to score some points and draws defenders toward her opening up the court for her teammates.

Sophie Montana Sophie Montana 5'4" | CG Northwest Guilford | 2028 State NC was doing well getting to the rim using her ball fakes to create some open space.  She didn’t back down from contact making her free throws when she needed to.  She directs traffic telling her teammates where to go on offense to get a play going.  Her patience allows plays to develop hitting her teammates at the right time.
