was a go-to threat for Spencer. Shots weren’t falling as well as the Tigers had hoped in the second half but Sydnee’s confidence from the three point line helped keep them within striking distance. Nailing her first three-point attempts of the game, Hopkins showed her ability to shoot off the dribble, off the catch, and in transition (I believe she finished the game with 5 made threes). Sydnee also has an explosive first step that was hard to slow down and used it nicely to weave into the lane. Her game-high 19 points featured a strong fadeaway pull-up through contact as well as a hesitation + blow by. Well done on a strong outing from the senior guard.

displays heart, coachability, and hustle every time she steps on the floor. Despite being a point guard I saw her battling for boards with the best of them on Sunday. Additionally Hopkins’ quickness and energy gave opposing players trouble in the half court. I noticed she was consistently tasked with guarding the other team’s best guard, and her aggression led to a number of contested shots (or no shot at all). Her shooting ability, her high IQ in the pick and roll, and her drive to buckle down get the job done on defense was a highlight for me at The Expo.

of Spencer High School came into the event and showed that she is scrappy on both sides of the floor, especially defensively. Hopkins stood out through the day as one of the best on ball defenders that I had the chance to see. She also made smart plays as a creator and distributor to those around her, always looking to assist in one way or another. I’d expect Hopkins to put up some numbers this Winter with Spencer for her last go around. If she plays her game, she should thrive.

This was the first time we’ve seen Hopkins play and she made a strong first impression. Quick, aggressive, and full of energy, Sydnee excelled in both 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 action. She handled the ball with confidence, hustled constantly, and kept her eyes up to deliver accurate long passes. With positivity and a great attitude, Sydnee elevated her teammates while making smart plays herself. Hopkins’ quickness, decision-making, and nonstop motor helped her get noticed early and often. It’s not easy to draw attention when you play way up in the northwest corner of Iowa but coaches need to take a look.

is that she is a multiple sport athlete, with an act for being in the right place at the right time. This tends to happen when someone works really hard. It’s difficult to explain on paper but the harder the player works, the more chances they usually get within the flow of the game and so I think that Hopkin’s high motor helps her make winning plays down the stretch. A skill or ability that not all can say they have.
