Brazley Barnes | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
New to Illinois basketball and joining a championship program, she fit in seamlessly. Known as a shooter but impressed more as a cutter, finisher, and passer. High IQ player who does not force shots and provides spacing. The type of player every winning team needs. She consistently makes the right play, helping her team stay balanced and efficient on both ends.

The size and athleticism are what you see immediately when you notice Miller, and when you take time to watch her in action, you start to see that she can be a strong 3&D piece for a program. She isn’t afraid to let it go from the outside and doesn’t shy away from using her frame on both defense and in the painted area on offense if necessary.

Miller was name to know over the summer.. and this was before she brought her talents to the IHSA this year. She’s a point forward with a lot of skill on the offensive side.. she can do whatever is needed of her. She can stretch the floor or go to work on the block. A ton of athleticism and energy.

Miller is coming from a successful program in Indiana, and now she’s stepping into another winning environment with the reigning 4A state champions. Her game fits right into their system. In transition, she’s fast and tough to contain, which is going to put major pressure on defenses. In the half-court, she’s just as much of a threat. A playmaker and a 3-level threat.

is another standout talent in Northwest Indiana who played a key role in helping Hammond Central capture the school’s first sectional championship. One of her greatest strengths is her ability to run the floor in transition, consistently putting herself in scoring position. Where she’s most dangerous, however, is when the ball is in her hands. Miller’s quickness and explosiveness make her difficult to contain in the open court, as she attacks the basket with confidence and pace. That blend of speed, control, and aggressiveness gives Hammond Central a reliable weapon in transition and a player capable of creating momentum-shifting plays.

Valencia is a talented athlete with great length, speed & quickness, plus a lot of bounce in her game. She was originally at Culver Academy as a Freshman & Sophomore, but as a Junior she transferred to Hammond Central. In the past, there were times where she fulfilled a double-double, interior rebounder/defender type of role, but recently she has been a true wing, handling it and shooting it from the perimeter, plus she can defend guards or wings.

Valencia has an athletic stature that immediately grabs your attention–she had a dominant weekend for Greater Purpose 17U at our Victory Region Finals. Valencia erupted for 21 points in the quarterfinals, leading the team with her presence on both ends. She pushed the ball out with long strides and created space from defenders with a variety of crossover combinations. Valencia has strong hands and threw skip passes on a rope to teammates. She made the effort plays, hitting the deck to secure loose balls, and protected the paint as a shot blocker. Valencia used all of her length to contest shots and keep ball-handers contained. She caught a pass in the corner and buried a pure triple off the hop–added two more. Valencia leaped up to snag offensive rebounds and finished through contact.

Valencia spent her first two years at Culver Academy, but this year she transferred to Hammond Central, nearer her Gary home. She has always been a talented run & jump athlete, but I feel like she’s starting to do a lot more off the dribble and was a lot more dynamic a couple of weeks ago. I still think she can become an elite perimeter defender with her length & athleticism, and with as much talent as she possesses, she should draw plenty of interest this Spring.

Valencia is tough to define by position right now, because she is an extremely long, wiry, and fast ball of energy. She flies around the floor using her athleticism, including some bounce, and she makes plays mostly off of that athleticism. She can defend bigger guards, wings, and forwards, plus she can drive it from the arc or the mid-post and finish around the basket. She is a really nice talent.

Valencia is another versatile type of forward who does a little of everything. She is extremely long and wiry, a fluid run & jump athlete, and she can make a lot of plays other girls can’t because of her length and athletic ability. She was more of a power forward when she got to high school, and she still likes to play some in the mid-post, but she is starting to stretch her game offensively to the perimeter. I think athletically and defensively, she can be a true wing today, but as her perimeter jumper and handle become more consistent, she will play outside exclusively.
