One of the more entertaining contests of the day featured Yarborough’s Fairfield Central team as they were matched up with 4A Greer. While the Griffins may have come out on the losing end of a 52-43 decision to the Yellow Jackets, Yarborough’s 20 points kept Fairfield Central in the contest from start to finish. There are bigs who are tall and are efficient rebounders and scorers. Then there are those who also create matchup problems. Yarborough is the latter. She plays with her back to the basket and is every bit as difficult to score on as she is tough to keep from scoring. Must we say it again – unsigned senior.

Zanariah really packs a punch literally down low in the paint. She plays the game on contact on both ends of the floor. Yarborough certainly will leave the floor each night using her foul count up. She does a nice job of rebounding the ball well on both ends of court but, especially well outside of her area. Zanariah will play with her back to the basket and really look to post up by carving out space down low.

Yarborough does all the dirty work down low on the block. She plays physical inside the paint and really looks to carve out space down low. Zanariah really plays the game with a blue-collar mindset on the floor. She was able to connect on a few short jumpers here today. She does a nice job of playing through contact and battling on the glass.
Yarborough made the move last season from Fairfield Central HS up to Legacy Early College in Greenville.

Speaking of those 2A Fairfield Central Griffins we mentioned earlier, Yarborough is transitioning into veteran status with her team. Yarborough has played her travel ball with one of the premier AAU organizations in the Palmetto State in A’ja Wilson Elite. She has participated in varsity basketball since she was a seventh grader. Last season, she averaged 11.4 rebounds and 9.8 points, two steals and 1.2 blocks for a Griffins team that was one victory shy of the 2A Upper State final last season. Yarborough can give a team productive minutes either at the five as a pure center or at the four as a power forward.

Fairfield Central’s loss happens to be Spring Valley’s gain here. Needing someone to serve in the stead of Ariana Wilkes, who now is in the college ranks at Division I Hampton, coach Megan Assey and the Vikings have secured themselves a formidable interior presence for the next several seasons. The calling card for Yarborough is what she accomplishes in the low post. Yarborough, as a 5-foot-11 power forward can also bring down rebounds and win plenty of battles on the boards. She is an efficient floor runner, will absorb contact to get to the free throw line, displays impressive footwork and asserts herself fearlessly on the court.

Yarborough will be a nice addition to the Lady Vikings roster this season after transferring in from nearby Fairfield Central HS. Zanariah really likes to battle inside the paint and play physical.
She will knock defenders around and rebound the ball on both ends of the floor. Zanariah understands how to play down in the post and using her body to gain advantages down low. Watch out for the Lady Vikings this season.
