The event is always the week after the Maryland public school state finals and will feature four big games. The day starts with the DMV Showcase which is a game that features 24 of the top unsigned seniors in DC, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. The players are carefully selected during the season to ensure that the most college ready prospects are participating. The second game of the day is the Mid Atlantic Challenge which features top seniors from the Mid Atlantic area. The Girls Middle School All Star Game is one of the most popular games of the day and will showcase top 6th, 7th and 8th graders from the east coast. The grand finale of the day is the Beltway Clash which pits the top ballers from the DC area (495 All Stars) against the best from the Baltimore area (695 All Stars). The winning team gets to keep the Beltway Cup which is currently residing on the Baltimore side with last year’s winning coach Kelli Cofield from Long Reach.
Some of the nominees have been named for each game and we have listed some below. The event has attracted many college coaches in its 7 year history with many offering scholarships right on the spot. This is a free event for all participants. I will provide further updates as we get closer to the event.
DMV Showcase
Some of the unsigned class of 2019 talent has been identified and I believe that this could be a very strong group. Here are some of the prospects that have been invited to participate. I would not be surprised if they come off the unsigned list before the event.
Rebecca Ford, 5’8″, Forward, Long Reach
Ms. Ford is a transfer from New York who is finishing her career in Maryland. She is a very good rebounder and inside presence that has shown the ability to put the ball on the floor and make shots. Very smart player with good instincts. Ford
Kristin Huggins, 6’0″, PF, John Carroll
Kristin was very impressive over the weekend at the Winter Classic Showcase. She is an excellent shooter from 3 point range and has a great drop and some nice post moves. She will be very impactful player at the next level.Huggins
Mid Atlantic Showcase
Alana Swift from Imhotep Charter in Philadelphia will be worth the price of admission! The Florida International recruit is a fierce competitor with a slick handle and a wicked step back jumper. Her game is made for and All Star event like this.
Swift
Girls Middle School All Star Game
Some of the top middle school talent on the east coast has been invited and have already accepted their invitations.
Zoe “The Bully” Brooks, New Jersey Sparks. 2023
One of my favorite players on the entire circuit. Her game is way more mature than it should be.
Tatum Greene, Power Move, 2024
Tatum has big time colleges following her already.
Gabrielle Kennerly, Maryland Lady Shooting Stars.
A very talented and versatile player who is well known in the DMV for her game.
The Beltway Clash
This game will feature big time players from both DC and Baltimore. Some of the nominees include Lyric Swann of Long Reach (UMBC), Sydney Faulcon of Old Mill (Niagara), and Aleah Nelson of McDonogh (Cincinatti) for the 695 side. Aliya Matharu of Bishop McNamara (Ole Miss), Anissa Rivera of National Christian Academy (NCCU) and Shanell Haskins of Capital Christian (Lafayette) will anchor the 495 squad. This is must see action. Let me know who else you think should be in this event.
