A 6’0 forward, Canady has helped Topeka go 18-2 this season and is averaging 21.2 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. She is shooting 56 percent from the field and has shown she can step out and knock down an occasional outside shot as she has made 10 3-pointers.
“I would say that I play strong,” Canady said. “I like to take it to the hole but I can also shoot. I can play a post but still bring the ball up the court.”
Canady spent last offseason playing for the Kansas All-Stars, now KC Hoops, and played up on the 17U squad, taking on a big challenge competing against older players.
“I think playing up prepared me for the high school season and made the transition to high school ball easier,” Canady said.
She says the biggest influence on her basketball career to date has been her dad who has been a fixture in the gym alongside her.
“We go to the gym every night before a game and shoot around,” Canady said.
A fan of Candace Parker and the LA Sparks, Canady says she has tried to take elements of the former Tennessee star’s game and make it her own.
“I like how she is big who can dribble and shoot and basically play like a guard,” Canady said. “I have tried to start shooting more because of her.”
