Continue ReadingAs we continue our wrap-up of the Iowa State Tournament, we are unveiling our evaluations for players in the senior class. Among all classes we have 139 total evaluations with 44 of those in the senior class. This isn’t an exhaustive list of everyone in the class at the event, but rather who played well or for extended minutes that we were able to get an eye on. This is Part II of III.
Lauren Griffith – 5’8 W – Waukon
Griffith is a really solid shooter who made some big shots in the two games that they played. I really thought that she was a dynamic player on defense as she started to miss a lot late in the game. She’s fairly athletic and has the ability to move the ball well on the offensive end.
Sydney Ross – 6’ F – Waukon
Ross was so good on defense inside in this one. She kept Goodman, an Iowa commit, in check and from taking over the game. I thought that she fronted the post really well and then also was able to do a little on the offensive end. Such a hard worker and has a huge motor.
Madie Willson – 5’6 G – Center Point-Urbana
Willson is a guard who doesn’t provide a ton of offense, but as a lead guard for this team I thought that she commanded the offense well. Provides a really solid defender who plays with a ton of passion. I think that her offense will come in college and I think she’ll be a really good two-way player. Committed to William Penn.
Corrina Timmermans – 5’10 W – Unity Christian
Timmermans is a really fluid and athletic player who leads the charge on the offensive end for this team. I think that she is a solid basketball player who would be really good at the next level due to her length and decision making. She is a very hard worker on both ends of the floor. Committed to Dordt (volleyball).
Jori Bronner – 5’11 F – Unity Christian
Bronner is a soldi post who struggled a little bit with foul trouble with the posts of Grundy Center, but overall I thought she played well while she was in. She is a really solidly built post who actually has better footwork than it seems at first.
Hailey Wallis – 5’10 G – Grundy Center
Wallis is a really long guard who likes to cut and move off of the ball really well. She can shoot it a bit and she does play really solid defense. Knows the game of basketball and will lead your team on the floor. I thought that even though she struggled to get shots to fall, she played well this week. Committed to Minnesota State.
Maddie McMartin – 5’5 G – Grundy Grundy
McMartin is a really solid guard who can do a little bit of everything on the floor. She isn’t going to score a ton of points but she’s the type of player to get everyone in position and to move the ball. Really quick with the ability to be in your face on defense. Committed to Central (soccer).
Kylie Willis – 5’11 F – Grundy Center
Willis is a skilled forward who just simply struggled to get the ball in the basket during this one. She is a solid option to score, but just didn’t have the touch to get them to go down. A mobile forward who has the ability to attack on defense. I really like her game.
Brooke Flater – 5’11 F – Grundy Center
Flater is a really strong post who gains her position well. I like her willingness to go to work down deep in the post. Uses her hips really well to push out defenders and on defense does the same to disallow players to get offensive position on the court.
Reegan Zinkula – 5’5 G – Grundy Center
Zinkula is a stocky guard who comes off the bench for Grundy Center. She is a really solid shooter when set and can rip off a few right in a row. I think that her handling and decision making could stand some improvement but the shooting ability is definitely there.
Jenna Bruns – 5’11 F – Aplington-Parkersburg
Bruns was really solid on defense in the game that they played in the tournament. She grabbed four steals and just played so solidly on that end. She didn’t really get going on the offensive end but was very opportune at extending possessions and grabbing offensive rebounds.
Kylie Kurt – 5’7 G – North Linn
For a team that really struggled to get anything going on the offensive end, Kurt was the one who sparked the offense just a bit. While she didn’t score a ton, she was the only one who could consistently get good shots. Takes care of the ball really well and is someone you can run the offense through.
