These are some of the key eighth and ninth graders who performed well. The majority of these kids that I saw are from the host team the Hoopstars.
Class of 2022/2023
Abbie Riddle, 5-10 Dayton Lady Hoopstars, 2023: she put on a great show in the game I saw her, very poised for her age and under control. Abbie has great court awareness and can get to the rim. Strong finisher at the rim also. Will run in transition with good handles, scrappy and always around the ball. Has a lot of good intangibles and an unlimited upside. A taller guard who can get it done.
Taylor Farris, 5-8 Dayton Lady Hoopstars, 2023: this kid was so good for an eighth grader. A very smart player who plays above her years. Great handles and a high basketball IQ. A high intensity player who can score from the outside, can hit the 3 and score midrange. High intensity player and is a good overall defender. Great passer. Don’t miss out on seeing her this summer.
Kendal George, 5-9 Dayton Lady Hoopstars, 2023: can shoot from anywhere and has outstanding range. Her team has several good shooters and she is right there among the best of them. She has good handles with both hands, and moves well without the ball. Kendal is a gymrat, always looking to get better. A good sized guard who can also finish at the rim.
Taylor Mincy, 5-0, Midwest Takeover, 2023: smaller size guard who plays with a lot of fire, has a desire to be good. Moves well without the ball and is quick, can cause issues on defense with her tenacity. Has excellent handles and is a fiery competitor. Can push the tempo when she is able to, and will get to the rim. Uses her athleticism to her advantage. Just needs to keep working on her game and getting better.
Claire Henson, 5-9 Dayton Lady Hoopstars, 2022: After a great freshman year, she looks to grow her game with a solid AAU team. She has great tools already and will just get better. Long and athletic, quick and is a good jumper. Claire (pictured above) can finish at the rim on anyone and one of the best technical shooters on the floor. Needs to just continue to build her confidence. An excellent rebounder. Solid defender and makes things happen on that end of the floor.
Caroline Kernan, 5-7, Dayton Lady Hoopstars, 2022: has a lot of potential to be really good in her class. She has good handles and is confident with the ball. Can get to the rim and finishes. If she increases her range, her ability to be a bigger threat would be there. She is a player who can get the offense going.
Riley Steinbrunner, 5-2, Ohio Stars Elite 2022: plays with a lot of grit and heart, very good handles, and a ball hawk on defense. Great hands on defense. Can get to the rim for her size and is very quick. Hustles at both ends of the floor. Still working to improve her shooting.
